Cycling while Sailing

There are three recorded instances of sailors taking bikes aboard with trainers to keep legs in shape and maintain cycling capability at an optimum. See Microspft Search.

First was Admiral Dewey on his way to Manilla Bay.

Second was then 2nd Lt. Geroge Patton who sailed his yacht to his first duty station in Hawaii. He was accompanied by his wife, their child, the child's nanny, his Seven and trainer. (His horses were shipped in an ocean freighter.)

Third was Admiral Marc Mitsher, commander of Task Force 58 in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Thanks for your reply, I remember reading something on this message board about some cross the pond with his Colongo all set up... At the time I thought it was sacrastic but you never know...

Wow!

A Blue Water sailor and a biker! If only I was single!

If it were me, I would find a way ratchet strap the trainer to the foredeck. (There are usually hand rails).

I probably would not exercise below deck in the saloon as this could make an already cramped space quite gamey.

I would imagine this will work better for you on downwind legs.

Also, if you do decide to exercise topside, please wear a PFD.

Best of luck. Post Pictures!
