There are a lot of threads about the necessity of getting fit to a bike. But how often should you get a bike fit? Does it vary based on which fit process you use?

"""There are a lot of threads about the necessity of getting fit to a bike. But how often should you get a bike fit?""

Depends. If you're a new rider (or new to road riding), a low, stretched out position might be uncomfortable at first. So you might want to start with a more upright position. Then as you put in more miles and get more flexible, you might want to get more aero. Or maybe not. There's no unique ""right"" fit. It's whatever works for you and your kind of riding (touring, fast group rides, or racing).

If you've been actively riding for a few years and have experimented and found a fit that's right for you, there's no need get periodic fittings. But if your fit becomes uncomfortable as you age, or if you decide to change your type of riding, then you might want to make some adjustments.

No, it shouldn't. The idea that different fit methods yield different results is kind of amusing, yet from things I've seen posted, folks seem to get set up VERY differently depending on which guru did the fitting.

You probably will get different fits from different fitters, sometimes using different methods, sometimes using the same. Everyone has a preference, a philosophy and a level of competence. Assuming that each person is equally competent (???!), some people just believe in comfort over aggressiveness (and vice versa), and I am sure that there are a million other 'professional' fit opinions.

Get fit on the internet

A good website for a do it yourself (actually, you will need a friend to help) bike fit is: wrenchscience.com.

Of course this won't be definitive, but it will give you a very good idea of your requirements. And the price is right!
