Lance on Regis and Kelly

Something wrong here. Regis and Kelly are on ABC at 9:00, not NBC at 10:00. I know because I have to make sure I change the channel then!

Lance Armstrong Gets Some Overhaulin'!

I saw that last night. Eventhough I usually like that show, Lance's episode was by far the most boring one I've seen. Usually, the person being tricked has some strong emotional attachment to the car, but it looked like Lance didn't really care much for it. Also, they had a HUGE team of people working on the car, rather than the usual 5 or 6, and they had all the parts pretty much pre ordered. And the whole part about playing mind games with the victim wasn't nearly as funny or elaborate as they usually make it.

Lance

"Considering who they were doing the joke on, it didn't surprise me. Lance can be pretty dry. I was surprised to find out that most of the overhaulin' was paid for by the show and some by Cheryl Crow. It's funny that those who can afford to pay for things themselves, get these things for free. Lance's comment after seeing the car - "" Now I have to train doublely hard to feel like I deserve this."" says it all. After seeing Cheryl on the show, I'm afraid she needs the overhaulin'. She looks terrible. She should go back to her natural hair color and stop straighting it."

Lance

For those of you who are, like me, Lance fans, I have it on good authority that Lance was spotted on River Road last am riding alone. He slowed down to ask a strong rider who was trying to catch up with him where the road led. The strong rider rode along with Lance and chatted about bikes and things until they got to the last long hill up to the park police station. The strong rider reports that Lance rode the entire hill sitting down with no hands on the handlebars. When the strong rider caught up with him Lance asked him if he wanted to ride with him back to NYC. They rode all the way back to Soho together and at the end of the ride Lance gave the rider his private phone number and suggested they should ride again sometime.

In the rain?

Maybe he was riding his GTO.

lance again

My source tells me that the ride in question took place on Tuesday morning, not Wednesday, hence no rain.

I dropped them.

I was on River Road Tuesday morning on my hard tail MTB, in my Nick Fotiu vintage Ranger jersey, sweatpants, Reeboks, and headphones, doing one-legged hill repeats and looking for posers to drop. Just to see the look on their faces. Saw two in full team kit climbing to Alpine, the guy in the statue of Liberty jersey actually pushing the USPS guy up the hill. I rode past them at about 30 mph and complimented them on their high zoot bikes and expensive lycra, then got out of the saddle and sprinted up to 9W.

Actually

I saw Lance on Regis and Kelly on Tuesday morning and he talked up the pleasures of biking in our fair tri-state area--pointed out that you can take the west side bike path all the way to the GWB and then bike right over to Jersey. He told them that he rode on Monday but was taking Tuesday off.

I wondered if he might have made it to Nyack (via RR, Bradley and Tweed, of course), but it sounds like he may have wimped out, or just didn't know any better.

Oh well, maybe next time.

is this the A28 ride?

That is amazing. Sounds like a dream come true (or a new urban legend). I'd love to get crushed by Lance up the Alpine hill, watching him cruise no-handed at probably 16 mph or more.

Urban legend, obviously

C'mon folks...

Lance rode the entire hill sitting down with no hands on the handlebars

Whatta showboater! Couldn't be the real Mr. Armstrong, whom everyone knows to be a very humble and self-effacing man.

Lance again

Since there appears to be some skepticism regarding my report about Lance riding River Road I will reveal my source--John at Conrad's bike shop. I was in the shop when John got a phone call from the strong rider. I do not know the rider's name.

Dead Giveaway

"""Strong riders"" do not patronize Conrad's. Their clientele consists exclusively of overpaid investment bankers whose equipment expenditure far exceeds their annual mileage. And a few celebrities...

LeMond, however, a true champion, could probably still find his way to Nyack blindfolded."

I wouldn't call LeMond a true champion when he continues to say that Lance could not have won his TDF's without performance enhancers. True champions do not behave that way.

Far off the point. I know may middle income people who patronize Conrad's and who are very strong riders. How do you know the income of Conrads customers?

"Dear ""Fixer"" :
Your refusal to give your real name and your disparagement of John and those who patronize his shop are cowardly acts. You are beneath contempt!"

It was a joke, son...

"Sheesh. Guaranteed I've known Mr. Tsang far, far longer than you.

Conrad's has long had the reputation of catering to well-heeled customers, but certainly not ""exclusively"".

Cowardly? Please. Only a coward would call someone a coward on an internet bulletin board. After all, what's the point? How 'bout a no-hands, no helmet race down Alpine hill on a dark, icy night? Hey, maybe we'll even see Lance!

"""Strong Riders"""

Yee at Conrad's, happens to be one of the best machanics in Manhattan. Sorry you feel it is beneath yourself, there are drugs for that now, to patronize the shop.

The TRUTH

"Alright all of you!!!

The reason I decided to bother with you people, is that I used to be a member of the NYCC and I still know some of you folks... Otherwise I wouldn't give a rat @ss about this...

The LANCE story is truth!!!

It happened on Monday morning around 11 am, on River Road. About one third thru the route... a rider behind approached me and my team mate... we didn't recognized him right away... After a moment, as he distanced away, perhaps about a hundred meters or so away, while approaching a hill, he took his hands off, BREATHILY (not the entire climb!!! people just love to blow up things in proportions) just to get some food from the back pocket and drink some water. Perhaps sitting a bit more upright permits one to swallow food in a more convinient/efficient way... I replied that this guy looks too good and comfortable for a poser. For that was the first impression we got as he passed us on the left... I mean, anybody could purchase a TREK bike, even if it's Madone SSL (almost $8,000 tag price) and put USPS postal shorts... Teh rest of th erider was hard to be rocognised. Anyway, I decided to chase him with a LOT of effort, but I caught up. Thank God he decided to slow down to ask for the directions on the final Climb... My team mate decided to take it easy, so he stayed way back and never had a chance to meet the man... It was a suicide mission... But I made it... So, we chatted about things until the Sherif's Boot. He asked what's the fastest way to get back to NY, for he had to be there soon. I asked him if he wouldn't mind me to tag alone... He didn't.. His reply was, ""we'll do TT,"" but we ended up ridding next to each other almost thru the whole route: 9W, to West Side bike path, and all the way to downtown NY talking about life and stuff . And it wasn't SOHO!!! but NOHO...

Some people have said a lot of stupid things here about him and this story... Well, envy is like cancer, it kills you slowly, from the inside. So don't waste your lifetime on this...

And to mister Fixer, well, whatever or whoever you are, you are not a bright type — ""no-hands, no helmet race down Alpine hill on a dark, icy night"" — smart!!!

As for Conrads.... well, John, Yee, and Phil are ""the men on the block"" they know their sh!t.

In Any case, the Lance story is true... And please, he DID NOT give me his private number!!! He took mine incase he decide to go for a ride and he DECIDED to have ""a strong rider"" company with as little bull sh!t possible... Yeah, definitely not looking for a muffin ride up to NYACK...

What's amazing is that I only said this story to a few people, and now almost entire NYC cycling community knows it, and some start to create their own version of the story, there is only one story, and this is IT!!!! ... I should know it better for the NEXT time... I am definitely keeping my mouth SHUT!!!

That's all....

The strong rider from Conrad's."
