Can anyone tell me when and where the pack riders in Central Park meet? I have a friend who just moved here who is interested in doing them.

There was a pack ride yesterday, Tuesday 11/23/2004. It's at 7.00pm at the benches in front of Tavern.

There were about 25 riders. There were your usual lone wolves along with some riders from Foundation, Toga/Gotham, & Merrill. I only sat in for a lap, but I assure you it was there.

what time do people usualy ride in the park till now that it gets dark early?

Depends
The park has a lot of runners and cyclist until 8, then it slowly dwindles until around 9, when it is pretty quiet.
I try to get there around 7 to aviod most cars and feel totally comfortable riding until 8:30. Now that the leaves are clearing the trees, the streets are well lit.
And whenever I begin to feel it is getting late and sparse, I always seem to see a single female jogger going by alone, so I guess I am oversensitive...
And on the original subject, The Tues/Thurs group ride has re-appeared now that the summer crowds are gone. They start off slowly around 7pm and went by me in the high 20's last night around 8:30. I couldn't hang long on my MTB.
(Just to get it off my mind, there were 5 cars sitting at the strawberry field's light a little after 8. There still must have been an entrance open somewhere. When the light turned green a green mini-van (DAJ 1122) raced up the road and started blowing his horn at some roller-bladers in the middle of the road. Too bad they were holding him up when he was illegally in the park...)

night ride
I think Tuesday’s nights they have what is known as a night ride, the riders consist mostly of racers riding
at race pace . Riding at night in pack at 30+mph especially on the west side of park does have a high level of danger , and believe
me cashes and collisions do happen on these rides. But, if you’re a strong rider with very good bike handling skills these rides could be a lots of fun.
