that I'm eager to get out onto the trails, but don't know a whole lot of people who mtbike, and don't have a car so can't really get to anywhere. I heard there was a park up in westchester that was easily accessed by Metro North. Anybody know of this place?

Graham Hills Park in Pleasantville

In Westchester its Graham Hills Park in Pleasantville
In Long Island - Stillwell Park - near exit 444 on the LIE
Riding on paths in NYC parks is not permitted and you risk having your bike impounded.

The Westchester Mountain Biking Association site has maps and directions by car and train to area trails. You can also take the LIRR to Montauk and ride at Hither Hills State Park. Van Courtlandt Park in the Bronx has a few short trails. Ringwood State Park in New Jersey is another good spot, but I don't know if it's easily accessible by train.

I am up for this and have also heard the blue mountains are good. Whatever way you look at it, it's probably worth taking a train somewhere. Need a few more days to get my bike sorted but let's stay in touch.
cheers
