I have been asked by the New York Road Runners to recruit NYCC cyclists to serve as spotters and/or escorts for the elite wheelchair, elite handcycle, and elite women wheelchair participants in the NYC Marathon Sunday November 7, 2004.

Volunteers should be capable of maintaining an 18 mph pace for the entire length of the course - (26 miles in 1 hour and 30 minutes.)

Volunteers will meet at 6:00 AM Sunday Nov 7th in the 38th Street Manhattan area, and will be bussed to the Brooklyn side of the Verrazano Bridge, where spotting and/or escort duties will commence. Volunteers will be furnished with Marathon Safety Vests and whistles, etc., plus some goodies.

To volunteer email Richard Rosenthal [email protected] -
Richard and Tom Laskey, Herb Dershowitz and Liane Montesa have agreed to serve as captains for this event. DO NOT VOLUNTEER TO THE MESSAGE BOARD. In your email to Richard include name, email address, and telephone numbers - please.

Those of us who did this ten years ago found it to be a very satisfying and worthwhile experience.
