Has anyone received any results trying to exchange a pickable Kryptonite lock? I sent 3 emails to the addresses that appeared in a message here a few weeks ago and received no response from the company.
Kryptonite Lock Exchange--Any Results?
Chaim, I've also heard nothing from Kryptonite about my lock. My message was sent weeks ago yet no response at all.
i didn't get any response to my email either, so went back to the website and filled out this form:
https://www.kryptonitelock.com/inetisscripts/abtinetis.exe/templateform@...
eh, which i got no response to...but it did make me wonder if kryptonite had given up on the email address.

"from K'Nite on Sept. 30th. Note that the referenced Mid-October earliest ship date is only now rolling around.
Unfortunately the e-mail was from ""Jeff Martin"" with no subject line, and I suspect that more than a few people may have deleted it as presumptive spam. Anyway:

Just got an e-mail from Kryptonite today with a link to my UPS label and receipt. I guess things are finally moving along...
I made a quick call to the number listed in my confirmation email ((800) 729-5625) which refered me to call 800.240.0802.
I called 800.240.0802 and they will be sending out specific info on how to send in your lock this Monday (10.18.04).
Hello Chaim,
I got a phone call from Kryponite. They said they received 18,000 requests for new locks and are working 24-7 to accomodate everyone.
Supposedly they will send out the proper forms and stickers to mail the locks back. The Kryptonite rep was not sure exactly when this would happen. She asked me to be patient.
Brad
Hi All,
I just now received an email response. They told me to go to their website: www.kryptonitelock.com . I guess they are very busy. Thanks for all the responses.
Hello Chaim,
I just received the message below from Kryptonite. You will probably get it soon.

Dear Kryptonite Lock Exchange Participant,
Thank you for registering for the Kryptonite Lock Exchange Program, and thank you for your patience as you've been waiting to hear more news. We wanted to give you an update on our progress.
We have begun sending UPS call-tags to participants for their use in returning their Kryptonite tubular cylinder locks, and we are preparing to send their replacement locks to them. This is being done on a first-registered, first-served basis. If you've not yet received a call tag from us, you should be receiving one soon.
We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have created.
Please know that we are working diligently to complete the lock exchange as quickly as possible.
Sincerely,
Team Kryptonite Customer Service
Got the same, and my e-mail program dumped it straight into the Spam folder.
Just called Kryptonite and was told mailing labels will be emailed starting today.
Just got an e-mail from Kryptonite today with a link to my UPS label and receipt, so now I just need to drop it off. I guess things are finally happening...
Oh, and for those with the aggressive e-mail spam filtering, the message came from: KRYPTONITE/PREMIER PACKAGING / [email protected], so be on the lookout. (it's an auto-generated e-mail, so i wouldn't try sending to that address)
good luck,
jeff
Called them yesterday. Might take my label 3 more weeks to arrive. And when you return your locks, if they have none in stock, more waiting.
I thought the deal was that they ship you the new lock, and e-mail you the shipping labels; then you have 3 weeks to return the old one. They also take your credit card info, in the event that the old lock never arrives.
The idea behind this is that you would not be without a lock for any time. Seemed pretty fair to me.
Is this not the case?
I think you were given erroneous info. What I stated was what I was told yesterday. Assuming of course, the person I spoke to knew what she was talking about.
I still haven't been asked for any credit card info, and haven't seen specific information about how long it will take for my new lock to arrive . But from what I can tell, I'm definitely supposed to send the old lock now and then will receive the new one some time in the future. This information from yesterday's e-mail is the only real information I've seen:
This notice alerts you KRYPTONITE/PREMIER PACKAGING has sent you an electronic UPS Return Label.
Message from KRYPTONITE/PREMIER PACKAGING:
To exchange your Kryptonite lock: Put your lock(s) and at least 1 working key into a box. Attach the UPS return tag and drop off at a UPS location.
You have received a return shipping label. Please click here to retrieve the label.
Clipped from a newsgroup posting:
Here's a copy of what I just received from Kryptonite.
*******************
As locks become available, we will send you a UPS postage paid label by
e-mailor mail. Once you receive that label you can call us at 800-729-5625
with your credit card information and we will send out your new lock. We
will not charge your credit card unless we do not receive your old lock
back within 21 days of shipping your replacement. If you do not return
your lock within 21 days, your credit card will be charged the retail price
for that lock. Your credit card information will be destroyed upon receipt
of your old lock and keys.

Maybe they changed their procedure?
I got the same email, asking me to use the label to send in my old lock - nothing about credit card info or when the replacement would be sent.
I'm not using the lock anymore, so I guess it's not really a problem to go without it until the new one comes...someday...

"I called Kryptonite today and they informed me that it ""could be a few more weeks"" before some of us receive our mailing labels. They started shipping the labels last week.
I'm buying a new lock - this is ridiculous.

What are people using for substitute locks while wating for the Kryptonite exchange?
Mul-T-Lock Maximum Security Padlock E14
comes highly recommended, but $75.00!
"big, ugly American Lock. basic steel model, strong and bic-proof. mine has a taller shackle, which is nice and easy for those hard to reach places."
The final chapter in the Kryptonite Lock debacle is ending for me today. Just under two weeks ago (11/9), I received my UPS label and sent back the old lock. Today, a brand new version of the lock came back. It's the EV DISC LOCK like I had previously, but instead of yellow it's black. And of course the key is different.
After all the questions about how this whole thing would be handled, I must say that it was relatively quick and painless for me. I hope that holds true for everyone else who's still waiting.
The only question now is whether I want to switch back now that I've gotten used to the American Lock. That extra long shackle is so damn convenient.
I hope my my case is dealt with by 2005. I'm still waiting for labels.
I received my label via email last week. I sent the lock off yesterday.
Hopefully a new lock will arrive within 2 weeks.
Someone cut through my extra-long American padlock (must have had power tools) last week.
i would advise: Use both.
Cat,
I use one of those locks too, and have gotten accustomed to using just it and a thick chain, at least for short visits. Long visits (movies, museums, etc.) gets an extra Krypto cable.
Was yours wrapped tightly around the bike, or was it dangling or on the pavement? I have been warned not to leave the lock in a position in which a thief could get any leverage on it. Where did it happen?

CONSUMER ALERT REGARDING ""APC BY KRYPTONITE"" NOTEBOOK COMPUTER KEY LOCKS (PNOTEKL5 AND PNOTEKL8)
As part of APC's longstanding commitment to the integrity and reliability of all of our products, we want to make you aware of an issue impacting our PNoteKL5 and PNoteKL8 notebook computer key locks.
As you may have read in the newspaper or heard on the news, Kryptonite, a manufacturer of a variety of locks - last week identified a vulnerability in a majority of its circular key locks. After careful inspection of our notebook computer key locks branded ""APC by Kryptonite"" (PNoteKL5 and PNoteKL8), we have discovered that this issue does, in fact, impact our product and make it possible for our key lock to be breached.
While we discontinued the sale of our entire line of physical computer security products, including key, combination and sensor locks, a year ago, we are making every effort to reach out to consumers who purchased our key locks and ensure that they are assisted in an efficient and convenient manner.
We would like to emphasize that this issue does not affect our ""APC by Kryptonite"" notebook computer combination locks (PNoteCL5 and PNoteCL8) or sensor lock (PNoteSL).
If you purchased the ""APC by Kryptonite"" PNoteKL5 or PNoteKL8 notebook computer key lock between 2001 and the fall of last year, call 866-272-7359 for specific instructions on how to exchange the key product for a combination product.
We look forward to continuing to provide the excellent customer service and high-quality products you have come to expect from APC.

Called Krypto this morning to check on my mail tag, which I didn't realize was emailed. I never received it and they only email one. I now have to wait for them to send out one snail mail. Shit.
Once you finally receive the UPS shipping label, things proceed very quickly. From the time I mailed them the defective locks, it took a week to receive the replacments. Very nice.
Right. If I recall the e-mailed shipping label says it expires in 10 days. I called them up in a panic saying I couldn't get to my lock until more than 10 days had elapsed. She explained that you HAVE TO PRINT IT OUT WITHIN 10 days. After that, the label expires in 90 days.
I just got mine back. It took about a week.
