spoke with Maureen and Jim about noon today - Monday - and arrangements are being made to transfer Jim to University Hospital - NYU - It will be accomplished either today or tomorrow. Now - does anyone out there in the NYCC community have a spare room - Manhattan - where Maureen can stay? Otherwise, she will have to commute from out in Plainview. If you do, please call her. The number is in the paragraph above. Meanwhile Jim appreciates all of your calls.

Jim

I met Jim many, many years ago through a former club member who no longer lives in NY. He was one of the first NYCC club members that I ever met. Jim might not remember me, but I wish him well.

Jim redux

Jim was one of the first club members I met as well. I remember he was famous for his Long Island routes and he led some of the first rides I did with the club.

Both years I was on the ENY committee he volunteered to SAG the routes. He tirelessly passed out food and brought in riders with mechanicals, injuries or those who'd just plain had enough.

Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery!

Jim Babbitt

Met Jim and rode with him in the early nineties on many Long Island B rides. He was always a leader who looked out for his riders. Very sad to hear about this. I always liked Jim, and will be saying a prayer for him. George K. please keep us informed, would like to visit him.....

I too remember Jim from my early days in the NYCC. He led very many of the B rides that I went on in my first few years with the club. I'm not able to offer a room to Maureen, but I certainly want to wish Jim a speedy recovery.

Jim- Speedy recovery

"I'll always remember those great B rides Jim led in my first few years in the club, especially in 1992 (or 3), after climbing Minnewaska and Rt52, the honor he bestowed saying ""you're a real B rider"".
Recover well."

Jim Babbitt UpDate

Jim began chemo therapy today, and is bearing up well. Prior to the treatment he received a medication which prevented nausea, etc,. associated with chemo therapy. He will begin radiation therapy in a few days, and it is possible that he will leave the hospital sometime this week and continue treatment on an outpatient basis. I will keep you posted. Keep up the calls and messages. 212 263 1663.
