I am looking to buy an old bike for commuting and riding in the city, but i'm not too crazy about steel wheels. I want to put a cheap set of alloy or alluminum wheels, nothing fancy but should be much lighter than steel. Is there maybe there is a place to find used parts, please contact me or repost if you can help...thanks

"Assuming you really mean 27"" . . ."

"I'm all for authenticity, but the difference in radius between 27"" and 700c wheels is 4mm. If the brake blocks can be dropped that far (perhaps with a little filing on the bottom of the slot), you'll have more wheels to choose from as well as a greater selection of tires as you rack up the miles and accumulate cuts, gashes and slashes from all the glass that makes this fair city sparkle in the sunlight.

Flea market at Surf Ave. across and near the Amusement park on Coney Island in Brooklyn. Friend of mine bought a set of aluminum 27' wheels with the tubes and tires for $40. There is a small shop selling a lot of used bikes and parts. Probably it is close to the Park on the same side of Surf Ave. but I'm not sure.
