“He showed today in front of the whole world what kind of person he is. It’s a sin,” Simeoni said. “I didn’t want to be the reason why the breakaway didn’t succeed, so out of respect for my colleagues, I gave up the attack.”

Later reports said that Armstrong was ""thanked"" by many riders for his stand and that Simeoni was abused by some and left to slip to the back of the peloton for a lonely day in the saddle that left him on the verge of tears and quitting."
Other riders think LA was out of line, abusing his role as peloton patron to make a personal statement against Simeoni, who is in a legal battle with LA.
And perhaps the riders that taunted Simeoni were USPostals? Maybe Simeoni was ridiculed for giving in and not staying with the breakaway.. Or maybe ... we do not know what really happened! Do we?
One thing, LA rattled and threatened the breakaway. His nearest competition there was 1:15 behind him. LA was asked to leave, drop back; he said he's go only if Simeoni dropped back also. Simeoni did, LA did. It was over.
Sounds rather nasty and petty to me, but again, some people claim Simeoni needed the slap-down to protect the peloton. Hmmmmm ... the personal animosity had nothing to do with it??? Simeoni was no threat to LA, USPS or the peloton's integrity. Bad Lance, bad!!
BTW, shhhhh ... go jan (in really small, faint font :-(

Shameful abuse by you on a bike!
I really don't know who you are/think you are. I did have a recent crash and don't remember seeing you there assisting. Perhaps I know WHAT you are - a biased puppet, ignorant of facts, devoid of class??? This is your second swipe at me - stop.
....and to think, you're a lawyer. SHAMEFUL!!!!
You're just a faceless, ignorant person to me. What is your purpose - to act as puppet for some one who was involved. I really don't think anyone involved needs your input. Now,'fess up, who are you and what is your stake? And what does this have to do with LA and the TdF.
Email me if you want to play priavtely. Or continue to quip here, ruin the topic and make yourself look foolish.

Simeoni is a crybaby. I would have been funny is he dropped out. His is jealous and pathetic.
There was some suggestion that Simeoni had been bad-mouthing several members of the peleton, not just USPS, on TV interviews with French and Italian stations on a regular basis throughout the three weeks of the tour, or at least that was the excuse reportedly given for Armstrong reeling him in and other riders 'thanking' him for his actions. As I have no access to French or Italian TV and have not read any French or Italian newspapers, I just don't know if any of this is true. Personally, I couldn't care less.

I don't know what to think of him either.
I just spoke with a business associate from Italy and asked him about the Italian press take on the Armstrong/Simeoni stare down. Apparently, alot of the Italian press doesn't care for Simeoni that much and consider him to be a liar - something about his testimony in court (excuse my ignorance on all the facts). However, they are also waiting to see if Lance will do the Giro - if not, it seems that he will lose all favor with them.
Go Jan.
