Anyone ever bruise your tailbone mountain biking?

I was riding trails in Hither Hills last week and had a great time for two and a half hours, until my bike flew over a rock without coordinating with my skeleton. Major impact between spine and saddle (no shocks). Didn't feel too bad until I went running on Monday and had a massage afterwards, now it's agonizing.

Needless to say, this is putting a crimp in my cycling plans.

The last time I bruised my tailbone was in eighth grade. I remember it hurt for a long time, but not how long that was.

Any advice?

Learning the hard way

If this ever happens to you, expect a three-plus week recovery period. And many hours sitting on an ice pack.

Maybe this could have been avoided if I'd gotten a bike with seatpost suspension. Maybe not.

Thanks to Hank for the suggestion about riding standing up. You can get quite a workout in five miles that way!
