Cover stories on Lance:
current Sports Illustrated (get it before tomorrow)
current Velo magazine (France)

plus:
Bicycling Magazine's special issue devoted to Lance.

Note to Maggie: suggest you get two copies of each (one for reading, another as a pristine collector's item wrapped in archival mylar bag--available in comic shops)

Current issue of Esquire and ESPN magazine.

Not to mention the moving picture variety, OLN as in the Only Lance Network. ;-)

plus...

---Men's Life magazine. Lance on the cover looks like he's doing tricep curls with his bike.

hehe...

...it's gonna be awfully hard for lance to climb those mountains with such a fat head.

the window is still open if anyone wants to wager...two powerbars to one that lance doesn't crack the top three.

Whoopdedoo!

"Well, Big Tex has his work cut out for him. Jan, Tyler, Heras - all gunning for him. I'm sure alliances have been or will be forged to thwart the ""kick for six."" I wonder if Inspector Clouseau will plot to save face for France. I wonder if a crazed fan will kidney-punch LA, a la Merckx. I wonder if Strudel-Man will break his death grip on 2nd place. I wonder if CRASH Hamilton will defeat gravity. I wonder if LA will call out again for Heras to SLOW DOWN. No Vino in this year (but maybe some wine). No Evans! The TTT is limited to a 2:30 loss. What a TdF this will be!!

LA is one heck of a rider - I just he'd, well, get his head lyposuctioned.

It's not Lancemania. Nor is it Lancephobia. I just say
Go Jan!

Jan
Tyler
Roberto.

Lance will win 6 -

- 6th place ;-)"

side wager

I got 3 Fig Newtons against 2 Twinkies that sez Hamilton crashes (for a change) and doesn't finish. LOL.

side-side wager

Is that before or after or with his teammate Alex Zulle? ;-)
Let's hope for dry weather during the tour for their sake.

I like Tyler's chances although I wouldn't count Lance out though.

Peter (who rides w/ corrective lenses, too)

Poll results

Belgian poll results for the Tour. Not as pessimistic
(optimistic?) about Lance as NYCC:

- Lance Armstrong 32,09%
- Jan Ullrich 30,00%
- Haimar Zubeldia 2,54%

fat head or fat neck?

I think the problem is more of a fat neck. The guy is ripped. I mistakenly and originally thought that was a body double in the boxing ring of the Nike commercial.

OLN commentary has been notably remiss to note how muscular/top heavy Lance is. Hmmm, I wonder why?!? ;-) My guess is his testosterone production is back to its normal, pre-cancer levels and he definitely looks like the Lance of old - before winning his 1st tour.

I wouldn't count him out for winning the tour again. If he does win, it wont be such a dominate win as in the past. I attribute this solely to his bulky weight (and not fitness level or desire to win). That's my 2 cents.

Great Lance and Tyler Coverage in Outside Magazine

Which has the additional virtue of being extremely well written.

Lance

"Pseudo-sighting: A bit underhanded, but I also saw a ""banner"" ad for an unnamed diet, has pic of man with racing bike slung over his ARM (could be Lance, but isn't) with the word ""STRONG"" (printed faintly) to its right. At first glance it looked like CYCLIST Lance ARM STRONG was hooked up with the XXXX diet."

today in the NY Times, 'tho not on the cover

""It will be much better to have a stronger second half than a strong first half.""

There. He's told the world his strategy - don't expect to see him in yellow until the final week, possibly not even until the last day. Remember LeMond's 8-second victory..."

He's going for the record

"""wow...i didn't know ulrich took second FIVE times!""

Yeah, why would Jan want to win when he has a chance to tie the all-time record for 2nd place finishes?

Whose got the love...

"Just because he's finished second so much does not mean he will be as loved as Raymond Pouliedur, ""The Eternal Second""."
