I took my bike out at 0400 on the 26th of June. I put on my new spd shoes and road on my bike when I finished riding I tried to take my foot off the pedal and damn near killed myself. Now I have my two new shoes stuck on my pedals....How in the world do you get them off? and is this going to happen to me again?

thanks for the help

Cleat may be loose on the shoe

"Another possibility is that the cleat is too loose on the shoe and the cleat is turning when you try to ""click out"". I saw this happen once.

One solution, which may be embarrassing, is to bring the bike to a bike shop. Where are you located? If you are near Sid's (34th and 2nd), I'll recommend them. They will probably not laugh at you.

In any event, don't be embarrassed--you're not the first person to have this problem.

Sounds like your pedal release adjustment is way too tight. You can loosen it with a hex key. Better to adjust it very loose and work your way into a tighter release tension than the other way around. Your shoes won't get stuck (or you won't fall flat).

I know this is going to sound dumb, but in the Corps the dumb question is the one you don't ask. With that being said, the pedal release is located on the pedal or the shoe?

I'm new to all of this so please have patience with me..

Wil,
The pedal release is on the top side of the pedal so it might be tough to get there with your shoes attached. If you can, it is probably a 3mm hex wrench that would do the trick. Have you tried unscrewing your cleats from the shoes? Good luck!

New to SPD

Wil:

I also learned never to assume. So, did the bike shop tell you to release from the pedals you must rotate your heels outwards.

Hope this helps. You should alsl take the bike to a bike shop to have them check the release tension on the pedals.

Steve,

They never told me that I had to rotate my heels outwards. I was able to get one cleat off and I am working on the next one. I don't know why they tighten it so dag gone tight, I'm damn near stripping the screws.

But, let me try the heel out trick.
