After 3 tries last year and no Hunter ride, I am loathe to allow this to happen again. As of now (~ 7pm Friday), the forecasts, however accurate they may be, suggest a good probability of rain in NYC. But things are looking better where we are heading. Poughkeepsie shows showers ending before 10am at Weather.com. Accuweather is a bit more optimistic. The train will arrive there at about 9:45. Hopefully, the rain will have ceased a bit earlier. At worst, if the streets are soaked, we could wait 1/2 hour or so to allow some drying. The rest of the day is looking great - again, at least as far as the present forecasts. I am willing to deal with a wet ride to the station, or even a subway ride to G.C. to get in a cool day upstate at this time of year. And I HATE riding in the rain. So, either I am deluding myself tonight, or this ride has a decent probability of going off substantially as a dry one.
I will put up a posting at about 6-6:15 if things are looking significantly worse than I am now expecting at that time. Otherwise, it is a go.
Hopefully, Metro North will give us a car to ourselves for the ride up. Get some food beforehand, as it is a 1:40 haul to Poughkeepsie.

Dry but breezy

It's looking windy at Tannersville--17 mph WNW by 1pm, with gusts up to 38mph. As Ron pointed out, it wouldn't be much fun on the way out, but on the way home--wheeee!

In my experience, however, the wind always shifts direction right about the time I do.

6:10 am - It's a go

I just spoke with Timothy. We were looking over the map on Accuweather, pacing the movement of the big front going through upstate. It looks like the whole mess should pass by Poughkeepsie between about 9-10am. Worst comes to worst, we might be delayed a 1/2 hour or so. But the rest of the day looks great - too good to pass up! See you all at GCT.

To all of you who ended up sitting on a fence...

You missed a great ride, big time.
In a few years when I am in an oldtimer's home rocking on the porch I will remember today's ride. Will you remember what you did instead?
