"Prior to our ride on Saturday, I wanted to provide those of you who are considering coming on the hot dog ride with more information about the route, pace, and what to bring.

We should reach our destination (Walter's in Mamaroneck) shortly after noon, provided we keep to the advertised pace. I've been warned that the lines can be long; and you should be warned that I intend to wait. :) You should also know that the hot dog lunch is at mile 30, and there will be significant riding after lunch. For those of you who are up for the dogs but not keen on maintaining a B18 pace after lunch, you can take Metro North from Mamaroneck.

The ride will ""officially"" end in Tarrytown at mile 64. If your leaders are feeling up to it, we'll try to push on to the subway in the Bronx, or all the way back to the City. Nevertheless, bring your train pass, just in case.

I'll post on the message board by 7:30 a.m. if we are going to cancel or delay the ride. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

The following is the listing that appeared in the bulletin:

B-18             70 +/-Miles               9:00 AM
Hot Dog! (Ride 1: Mamaroneck)
Leaders: Ivy Pool, 212-496-4048, [email protected]; Christian Edstrom,
[email protected]

From: Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument (89th and Riverside Drive)
The first in a series of summertime rides to local hot dog stands. We'll ride to Mamaroneck, stretching out the ride to burn some extra calories and really earn our lunchtime reward: hot dogs! Our destination, Walter's in Mamaroneck, is considered by some to be the New York region's finest dog. What to bring: your helmet, your appetite, and maybe some pocket money for a souvenir tee-shirt. The usual cancels; check the message board or call us after 8, if in doubt."

Walter's

For those of you who don't want hot dogs, they also have curly fries, potato puffs and milkshakes at Walters!

Anything else the menu

Anything healthy on the menu? :)

I think that's the entire menu - dogs, potatoes, shakes. (nm)

I'm not certain you've understood the thrust of the hot dog ride. This is a ride whose goal, nay, very essence, is the eating of hot dogs. Asking if there is anything healthful on the menu is antithetical to the very nature of the ride.

That said, Mamaroneck also has a selection of delis and other restaurants, so it's likely you'll be able to find alternate sustenance. But why would you want to? If you're putting in 70 miles, you've earned that tubesteak!

Mmmmm. Hot dogs!

it's on!

A little rain can't dampen my enthusiasm for hot dogs. We'll leave at 9:00 a.m., as scheduled.

A Great Time Was Had By All

Over 25 folks enjoyed a beautiful ride. The weather was just about perfect (just one small sprinkle), no accidents, a short line at Walter's for lunch. Everyone had a great time. Ride leaders Ivey, Christian, and Sally did a great job of keeping everyone riding together safely and in high sprits and at a fairly fast pace. Thanks to the leaders and all the other riders!
