I share a (small) 1-BR with my girlfriend, who is becoming tired of my bike taking over its own corner in the apartment. Our building does not have a bike room. Does anyone know of any bike storage options I could check out, that don't cost an arm and a leg, and that would be easy enough to access 3 or 4 days each week? I live near central park on the east side.
Many thanks.
bike storage
In my studio apartment, the ceilings aren't high enough to hang a bike from--let alone three of them. When I moved in six years ago, I ordered a custom loftbed with four-foot clearance underneath. It holds 3+ bikes held upright on racks, plus other stuff. Curtains on spring rods cover the openings. Considering the premium on space, it was a good investment.
A cheaper alternative would be to have Gotham or one of the other wood furniture stores in town build a standard loftbed. They can vary the height to your specs without much extra charge. They can also include other storage facilities, deskspace, etc. (Bet your girlfriend wouldn't mind a little extra closet or drawer space....)
It is annoying to live in tight quarters and always be walking into something. At the same time, living together requires a degree of compromise.
Hope you can work something out. Having to keep your bike at another location would make it that much harder to ride regularly.
Singular? As in, just one?
And that's a problem?
I'm no Ann Landers, but I'd say the bike's not the problem here.
You appear to be looking for parking outside of your apartment. Perhaps mini storage?
Alternatively, here's what I did. Hung on wall horizontally over desk. Have 18 inch deep shelf below. Roller blind in front.
I'd dump her.
Yep - your girlfriend is obviously taking up too much room.
LOL!!
Look on coloradocyclist.com or some similar site. There are devices that hang it from the ceiling, wall, or from free standing racks. I've got 4 bikes crammed into a corner of my small apt.
