I'm considering going on this ride in June ... have any of you participated in this ride? Would you recommend it? Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

I did it 5 years ago. It rained every day but one (but not constantly) and I enjoyed it alot. We did the Telluride/Durango/Pagosa Springs/Creede/Gunnison/Montrose loop. This Southwestern region of Colorado is more suseptible to monsoon rain (summer rain) than the loop that is scheduled for this summer. Fred Steinberg did the same thing but as a reverse loop with Timberline Tours just about the same time. His accomodations were better. I used a tent; sleeping was never a problem. The organizers have since instituted a one day layover in the middle of the tour. I would do it again if I had an opportunity.

Tour of Colorado 2002

I an 15 of my fellow club members did this tour. Started in Gunnison-Creede-Pagosa-Durango-Ouray-Montros-Gunnison.
You need to train hard for this event. You need a triple,
unless you are super. You need an insulated wind breaker.
The tour was in july of 2002 and there was an ice storm in the upper elev. We all stayed in nearby Inns. Got a good nights sleep and were able to do the climbs. Tents may be cheaper but suseptible to night rains. I enjoyed the challenge and would do it again...on a triple.

I don't think you need a triple...

I don't think you need a triple. The grades are more moderate than you think. Because the routes follow state/national highways, they must be plowed in the winter. For this reason, all the roads we cycled had moderate grades. Certainly not more than 8%. I did it all in a 39 x 27.
Call the organizers before you go to make sure. I did and they told me what I wrote in the first paragraph. The hills are long, that I'll grant you.

Double vs. Triple

I sure hope you are right about it being moderately graded. I just signed up and ride a double ... but just in case, I guess I'll be doing a bit more training between now and then!

Thanks for all the information!

Supported or Unsupported?

"Will you be carrying all your gear, or will it be transported by van? That will make the difference between needing a triple or not.
