I have a friend coming into town next weekend (Saturday) and she would like to ride outside, weather permitting. While she is a pretty good rider (17 mph), she finds riding in NYC traffic quite intimidating. I figure I can get us to the GWB via the A train, but I am looking for a recommended route from there for a 50 – 60 mile out and back. Thoughts other than Piermont/Nyack?

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

"The ""Ridgewood-Westwood"" ride from the B-SIG guide. Very scenic, good rest stops, very representative of NYCC rides, but not ""Nyack""

Deduct 14 miles for the bridge, but St Nick & Riverside should be faily tranquil on weekend mornings.

"I thought I heard one of the SIG leaders refer to them as the ""3 pigs"". After riding them, I thought ""3 bears"" was more on target."

Eye of the Beholder?

"

I think the ""Sisters"" are 3 longer hills further north on a 65 miler to Ridgewood.

The sisters are on Wearimus Rd & Washington Av between Hohokus & Westwood. IIRC (since Sunday) Sister#1 is the longest at about 1/4 mile. They're reasonable for intermediate riders. S#1 up and down had very rough pavement as of this past weekend.

Bergen-Rockland

Look in the ride library on this web site. In the NJ-Rockland section is a ride called Bergen-Rockland Ramble. Bridge to Bridge it would be just about 60 miles and goes on some lovely back roads. Mostly rolling terrain. There are 2 deli stops.

Love the ride library. But as someone new to the terrain, was looking for a little more depth. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Now go away rain in the forecast.
