I’m surprised John Z. didn’t bring ice tools and screws to hack his way up the rocks.
It’s good to see you guys with a no drafting and no dropping (off the trail) policy.
Nice Pics Tim and Hank
it was fun. And cross country skiing is easier to learn than riding a bike. Hey NYCCers, treat yourself to the best of the winter season and get thee to some cross country trails and do some skiing. Hard to believe, but some folk actually look forward to winter.
A bunch of us were up at Fahnestock State Park on Saturday. It was like a bike ride on skis. There must have been 25-30 NYC cyclists on hand. One of the benefits of skiing is that you can wear your bike clothes.
I did a snowshoe race on Sunday!

Not for me..."
Do you think you can just get on a bicycle and ride with no prior experience? But you put on skis and took right off. The basic x-country stride is like walking. Going downhill is another story. Turning scrubs off energy. We descended 500'. Consider what the impact would be if you fell 500' vertical. You had to dissipate all that force via turning. When you are just learning how to balance yourself on such minimal equiptment turning can easily throw you off of your horse. And falling is part of skiing.
I fell 500 vertical feet in 30 small chunks. At least today I can move fairly easily...
