Rosenthal for President!

Great media tips, and he could save taxpayers a lot of money on those million and a half White House Xmas cards each year. No more red barns or White House fireplaces, either.

"Coppi ""in"" film"

"I think I posted this several weeks ago. The ""lead"" cyclist in the film is drawn to look like Coppi...not that anyone in the audience realized it, but now you will.

Let me say it again: the film is nothing less than brilliant. It is complex and rich in texture and references, but don't go expecting to see a conventional story or conventional anything.

The animation is happily free of computer affect.

Language? There is none.

In addition to the Sunshine Theater, it is playing in one of the Lincoln Center (area) theaters.

No Commercial Posts!!!

"But in this case we can make an exception.

As Richard says, ""The Triplets of Belleville"" is nothing short of brilliant. Wonderfully imaginative, combining an original vision with cannily witty references to French Cinema. A kind of animated Jaques Tati on a bike with bits of ""Rififi"" and Godard all thrown into the mix.

I must admit, I missed the Coppi resemblance and probably some of the other TdF references but no matter. You don't have to be a student of bike racing history to appreciate this film and the training sequence is a scream. Bring your imagination and have a great time."

Just saw it. (Edit)

Wow. Speechless.

(There were kids in the theater who could not possibly have enjoyed it - waayyyy over their heads, besides being just generally too dark and sinister.)

IRAN
Hostage takers free Europeans

TEHRAN — Three European cyclists abducted in Iran earlier this month have been released, the Interior Ministry said yesterday.

""They are free,"" a spokesman told Reuters news agency.

The cyclists, two Germans and an Irishman, were kidnapped on Dec. 2. Iran said they were snatched by bandits or drug runners in Iran's rugged eastern border region.

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi was quoted on state television as saying the three were in good health.

According to the official Islamic Republic News Agency, the Intelligence Ministry reported the hostage takers had said the kidnap was organized from outside Iran.
