Hey John I went today to look at there bikes. They were trying to convince me to get a full suspension and even go with disc brakes. Do you think I really need that stuff? I have more of a hardtail and rim brakes in mind.
I really don't know alot about bikes but I liked the $1000 bike(2002 stump jumper) for some reason. They were pushing more towards the $2000(2003 epic) bike.

It depends upon what you want to do. For moderately technical cross-country riding, a hardtail is fine. If you are looking more for downhill bombing, a full-suspension bike is more in order. I guess it also depends upon how much you want to spend.
