"...with all the excitement, i'm hoping for a good run today. if i survive my first 10k in years, i'll dedicate the joe kleinman 10k run to both joe (who passed away last month) and the 101st airborne division (the unit i served with 25 years ago).

got the rat...time to run
"In my only encounter with Joe Kleinerman, 2 years ago, I asked if the race would run in snow. He growled that ""we run in everything."" Well we ran today but it was downgraded to a fun run. The medical side of the equation said the conditions were too dangerous to race. Although Joe might not have approved, the call was a good one. One of my friends slipped while walking on ice under snow on a path in the park after the race."
...i did see one guy run the entire course while pushing his bike along the whole way. :) i forgot how much fun it is to run in the snow!

... Don, I stayed home though to avoid the flu and heal my broken clavicle. Slipping on ice didn't seem fun either.
I figured it would turn into a fun run like the week before (Hot Chocolate-9 miles). Nine miles would have been a long walk. Joe Kleinerman 10K as a walk was okay ... but I hadn't exercised or moved fast since Nov 23.
For guaranteed Marathon entry NYRR requires nine scored races run the previous year ... that means you don't play Marathon Lottery .... you know you're accepted.
So, all I need is Sunday's run to complete nine. The weather has turned lucky for me afterall.
Speaking of broken clavicles, I dined with a RAAM rider friend last Friday evening. He mentioned one woman who had a CP accident about a year ago. I immediately thought of a NYCC member who Peter O'Reilly rescued her Rich Sachs bike. Can you believe it was her ... I never met her nor did I know her name. She was surprised when I asked if that was her accident. Of all the accidents in CP. I only knew the accident was in CP, too. Anyway, she's fine now.
not sure if it's done every time a qualifying run is turned into a fun-run, but joe's run counts towards the 2004 marathon.
:)
don
Yes, Don,
If a person pre-registers and the race is turned into a fun fun ..... it still counts for Marathon guaranteed entry. Like I said, the Hot Chocolate Run also turned into a fun run because of weather conditions.
