I scouted this ride last week, and hopefully this early snowfall will not be a factor on Wednesday.

Wednesday December 10th 6:45 PM and
Tuesday December 16th, 6:45 PM
B16 (net), 31 Miles,
Leader: Chris Taeger (212) 371-7906
From: City Hall Park East & Brooklyn Bridge, near subway kiosk
2nd meeting point: 15th St. & Prospect Park West 7:15 PM

There seems to be more lights and outdoor ornaments in Dyker Heights Brooklyn than any other neighborhood in NYC. This ride will bring out the spirit of the season. We start with a quick 17-18 pace to get the blood moving and the body warm. We'll check the circle at the SW corner of Prospect Park for Brooklyn riders. After 10 miles, the pace slows as the light show begins. In the next hour, there will be oohhs and aahhs, with 2 standout residences (one early, one late) where we will pause briefly to take in the marvel. We stop at Dyker Park Bagels for a hot beverage before picking the pace up to go home. The R train is a nearby bailout if you need it.

Dress in layers, bring the usual accouterments (helmet, water, $$ for snack, spare tubes, bike in working order). Headlight and Taillight STRONGLY recommended

Postpones if: a) rain or frozen precip, b) winds above 20 mph or temps below 25 degrees at 6:00 PM. or c) Snowy Streets. If in doubt, check message board.

Subway @ City Hall: 4,5, 6, J,M,Z City Hall Brooklyn Bridge stop
Subway @ Prospect Park: F train, 15th Street - Prospect Park stop.

Disclaimer: If your neighborhood has more lights than Dyker Heights, let's take a ride out to see them.

The Ride is ON...so are the lights

"The weather is cooperating!
No percipitation until midnight...when we should all be tuckered in for a long winter's nap with vision of new bikes dancing in our heads.

Temperature should be 44 -- very nice for a ride. A little wind, 8-9 mph forcasted, thus wind chill = 40 F.
This will be better than some of our A-Sig rides this past ""Spring"". A couple of layers should be enough, but max protect the feet and hands and you should be comfortable.

Tony Mantione, who has graciously invited us to his home tonight, has reported the slush factor to be minimal. I expect the main roads and the Avenues in Dyker Height to be dry.

To all of the NYCC members that are contemplating doing the ride to see the Holiday displays in Dyker Hights,

Even if the roads are not conducive to riding, and you still want to see the displays, then consider doing it by subway. N train ( Ft. HoHoHo!

This ride sounds great. I've been going down to Dyker Hgts around Christmas time since I was a child. The past few years, on my bike. Amazing! Some of these houses have spectacular decorations. And think of the electric bills and off-season storage.

The ride itself, at a B16 pace, sounds fine too. I was about to mention the Nathan’s across from the bagel place. But, Tony Mantione’s offer of his place is great. I hope I’m home early enough and am free to do the ride. Weather permitting!
