"It's odd. It's quirky. It's fantastical (sic). It makes lots of use of cycling--including reference to the Tour de France. The lead cyclist is drawn to look like Fausto Coppi...not that anyone else in the theater would have picked up on that and the film doesn't make mention of it.

It's an animated feature film, ""The Triplets of Belleville."" You've never seen anything quite like it. (But, then, I can well imagine that's precisely why some of you may not like it.) If you find the bike parts too slight (they aren't) but appreciate inventive art, you'll appreciate it for that. Also, go with an eye to picking up all the cultural references.

I saw it at the theater on Houston near Second Ave. but I think it may be showing at two other theaters in NYC.

ACTION!!

Well OK! Another cycle-on-film item. They are great on those nasty winter days when you need a pedal-fix and have to resort to indoor training. It’s nice to have a cycle film or race to add some meaning to the stationary spinning. The Bicycle Thief, A Sunday in Hell and 2 Secondes are my favorites. The USA entries – Breaking Away and American Flyers are close runners-up. Perhaps Les Triplettes will find its way into my cycling subconscious too.

Thanks, JP

Films w/ cycling in them: from NYC to Australia...and back.

Is this a demonstration of the power of the Internet or what? I never heard of the Aussie. He must have picked this out of a long, long, long ago NYCC Bulletin. I hadn't even recalled writing it until someone brought this to my attention.
