I do the 62 mi route twice a week and am curious as to what's different and where the 100 mi route extends to.
Thanks!
Is there a detailed trip sheet available online for escape NY?
Nope, nothing on-line. You can find out tomorrow.
Thanks but I couldn't make it this past weekend. No one has anything in postable form? That's too bad.
As Tom said, there is no route sheet for ENY easily available on line. However, I do have the file and can and will mail it to you personally upon special request. Bill, I will send it to you tonight.
"Thanks so much for the file!
The route is so different than what I would have thought. I usually do 9W all the way up to Rockland Lake (except for the short jaunt through Nyack). Sometimes I go to Haverstraw that way. Tomorrow I might try for Bear mtn.
I hardly ever venture ""inland"" but it looks like perhaps I'm missing a lot. One day I'll try to follow this route.
"
"I was once in a similar position until I discovered some of the ""inland"" routes. With a little ingenuity, you can save yourself several turns getting to Call's Hallow Road as follows:
Take E. Saddle River Road to S. Monsey which runs into College Road then into Forshay Road then into 202. Then make a left of Old 202 and a left on Call's Hallow, which then becomes a gateway to several options. When Calls Hallow ends at Willow Grove, the ENY route turns left with a quick right on Blanchard. Instead of turning, stay on Call's Hallow which become Gate Hill Road which leads into Harriman Park. Gate Hill Road is a good little climb, and there are many, many miles of wonderful riding in Harriman Park. From Call's Hallow, you can also follow the ENY route around Mott's Farm Road, eventually ending up on 9W, or skip Mott's Farm Road by making a left on Willow Grove which ends at 9W, as the A-22 wuzzes did on Saturday.
As days grow shorter, the ""inland route"" also makes for a good one way ride, by continuing on to Garrison and taking the train back. Conversely, doing the above in reverse is always an option. Take the train to Garrison, cross the Bear Mountain Bridge, head south on 9W make a sharp left on Mott's Farm Road...
"
You might want to check these suggestions against the map. Just as an example, I think it's a sharp right off 9W headed south to get onto Mott Farm Road (it was a left going north when we rode up that way with Fred S a few weeks ago).
Russ;
You are correct.
"John's directions are the reverse of yours - approaching Rte 9W from the West via Mott Farm Rd. What you describe is correct, too.
I believe John meant to write to make a right turn for the following: ""...or skip Mott's Farm Road by making a left on Willow Grove which ends at 9W..""
Disclaimer: this is all from the top of my head. Good suggestions here, but take Russ's advice and consult a map to finalize route details."
Should have be right on Willow Grove and a sharp right on Mott's Farm Road. I was still shivering from Saturday when I typed this...
One could always follow or reverse the excellent painted cues on the roads.
It was bloody cold Saturday wasn't it??? Had to get a special delivery of fleece, wool socks and plastic bags for my feet
