Somewhere I heard a rumor that they were going to ban cars 24/7 from Prospect Park for the summer or part of the summer on an experimental basis.

So far, no ban. Anyone hear anything about it?

"The Brooklyn Commitee has been working on this issue for a long time. This past winter we extended the car-free season by a few months (?). The park used to have car-free (""summer hours"") from the start of daylight savings time to the end. Now we have mid february to mid December, or there abouts.

If you support car-free parks in NYC there is no better organization to become active in than Transportation Alternatives. Writing letters to city officials also helps tremendously. You can write Iris Wiensall, Adrian Benepe, Prospect Park Alliance, Marty Markowitz, David Yasky and plenty others that I can't remember at this time.

Or just go to Prospect Park and close it yourself, I do it all the time."

closing prospect park

The last time I closed Prospect Park was a few years ago. It was after 7:00 pm and the parks department had failed to close it promptly, so a few of us decided to do it for them. Before we could get the barrier into position and get on our bikes, a police car rolled up and stopped us and questioned us about who said we could move the barrier and threatened to arrest us if we touched it again.
