Does anyone know a sports bar or bistro in NYC that is showing the tour -- live or rebroadcasts in full?
Thanks.
Julie
Viewing the Tour in NYC
Blondie's on the Upper West side; Park Avenue Country Club on Park Avenue South.
Apparently there are a few bars in the borough that will turn one of their TVs to OLN if it is surrounded by beer drinking fans. Sunday night looks like a good stage... might be that day the tour is decided.
Let's not have a message board discussion of whether it is or isn't a crucial stage and focus on whether some manhattanites would like to group up to watch it.
Saturday, Sunday and Monday will all be crucial days. I would prefer a Saturday evening viewing, as I think this will be more compelling, with its mountain top finish at Plateau de Bonascre, but bars will be crowded. My second choice would be Monday, again becasue of a mountain top finish, this time at Luz-Ardiden. Sunday would be my third choice, but it still will be an interesting stage with 4 Cat 1 and 2 Cat 2 climbs and a finish only a couple KMs from a fast decent. We certainly had a lot of fun last Sunday viewing the L'Alpe d'Huez stage at the Water Street Bar in DUMBO (Brooklyn). About 50 showed up. Unfortunately, I cannot think of a bar in Manhattan that would be so accommodating, not that one might not be. I am pretty sure most bars have OLN, so it would just be a matter of finding an appropriate one and convincing them to turn on OLN.
Blondies is a good candidate for Sun/Mon. They only have to give us the TV's near our tables, maybe one of the big screens nearby. Depends on the size of our group and competing events (we should check the sports schedule for that night) As a bonus, Monday night is all you can eat Atomic Wings and beer specials.
Saturday night will likely be impossible, might be better to watch the 4PM broadcast at home as I intend to do.
Just confirmed with the bar that they do have OLN at Blondies on W 79th (bdway/Am)
If we go in as a group and take over a corner they will tune in the race for us. I suggest we use the board to arrange times.
Monday night??
I'm hoping to watch the tour at Blondies Sunday at 9PM and Monday at 8:30. If we have enough people we can take over the back corner and get the projection TV... otherwise the TVs near our tables.
As it happens Blondie's has great bar food (Atomic Wings) and if we have too few people and can't muster a corner we have my apartment a few blocks away with OLN on a good TV
Especially now that we have a very, very compelling Tour. Anyone up for tomorrow (Saturday) evening as well. Could be historic! OLN has an 8:30-11:00 re-air, and I promise not to check online before then...
I'm interested on Sun and Mon eves. Count me in.
Put me down for Sunday and Monday.
If we have trouble getting the projection TV I will be swift in bringing the full weight of the office of President of the NYCC to bear in order to accomplish our goal. If that fails we can try grovelling.
Oh yeah, those wings are bitchin'!!!
West 79th between Bway and Amsterdam is a lot more convenient for me than DUMBO. I plan to be there. Should we show up around 8:30?

It seems I am a de facto organizer of this event. let's try to get a headcount either by email or on the board so we can arrange with the bar. Please specify Sunday or Monday
Just checked the sports listings, Sunday has just one ball game, St Louis at LA... shouldn't get in our way. If we have a good crowd that night (eating and drinking) we should find the bar to be cooperative on Monday when there are a few games... one of them Toronto at Yankee Stadium...
So is the deal Blondies? I will be coming in from BOSTON for my B- DAy next weekend, unless everyone can pool in and send me to Paris....no...OK. So please tell me where to show up so I can cheer with everyone.
Jonathan
I will be there both evenings.
How about Saturday, since there is a strong chance we may see the yellow jersey change hands....
"I'm working late and the manager at the Park Ave. Country Club hasn't called me back to confirm whether to bring a group to watch the Saturday Tour. (Someone I spoke with there said they might be closing ""early"" on Saturday...)
Perhaps the labor problems Michael spoke of are interfering with business. (Is there a strike? I don't cross pickets.)
At any rate, I will post if I hear back from them. Otherwise, I advise that people call before heading down there (Park Ave. South and 27th St.) The phone no. is (877) 240-6124.
Sorry for the inconclusive response.

I just phoned. Sorry for the false lead, Evan.
After surviving 2 crashes and a run through a field.
>chance we may see the yellow jersey change hands…
It sure is getting interesting. Even with a few top riders out of contention, this is the most exciting TDF in recent memory.
Since I live in the neighb, I might pop in one night or two. How will I recognize anyone in his or her civilian clothes? are some people coming in goofy TDF garb?

Jan Ullrich was quite sick the day of Alpe d'Huez and only lost one minute to Armstrong. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
Just stopped by Blondie's on my way home. The manager promised one of the projection TVs and sound. If we are a big enough crowd we can have the back room to ourselves
I promised them I'd give them a guess of the headcount before then. Please mail or post your intentions..
also let's keep this thread to the who and where we will watch and discuss the possibilities for Lance on a new thread. That will make it easier to see who is coming. Thanks
Park Ave Country Club is having a bit of labor trouble at the moment.
and will bring a friend for sunday night.
see you at blondies.
