I'm planning a ride from Eastern Queens out to North Fork, Long Island (Cutchogue, specifically) on Friday. Can anyone recommend a good route to follow? Most Montauk courses follow Merrick Rd., which is too far south. Thanks in advance.

Northern Boulevard

I've never done this but I have a friend who is riding from NYC to Shelter Island in a few weeks. He's taking Northern Boulevard (which starts at the Queensborough Bridge)all the way east. At some point in Suffolk County it turns into the North Road which is really a nice road to ride on (I've ridden on that from Southold to Orient Point). You would just need to find out which north/south road to turn on to get to your destination. Hope this is of some help.

Cutchogue

Route 25A (Northern Blvd) is OK through Nassau if you want a direct route. (There are better alternatives if you want to get fancy.)

From Stony Brook, take Sheep Pasture Rd., North Country Rd., Lower Rocky Point Rd., Rocky Point Landing Rd., Route 25A, Sound Av, Route 48 (Middle Rd), Route 25.

Try one of the online map servers for details (MapQuest, Yahoo Maps, etc.)
