American Flyers with Kevin Costner, David Marshall Grant, and Rae Dawn Chong is on PAX-TV tonight, 8 p.m. One of the very few films about bike racing. I saw it a long time ago, but I still remember the beautiful Colorado scenery and the truly exciting race. The rest of the movie is pretty dated, I hear, and the acting isn't great, but it should be fun to watch, when it isn't painful.

RIGHT!

It's an OK film - with some nice bike racing. My fav scene: when the brothers go out to meet Max to help with their sprints - Max being a nasty, unfettered canine.

Thanks for the heads up!!

Eddy!

"The best part is when Eddy Merckx makes a cameo appearance.

At the time the film was released, the USSR Olympic team saw it, and were in hysterics when they saw the bearded Russian racer.

American Flyers

"I only was able to see parts of it last night, but I did catch the sprint training with the dog (named Eddy). The cowboy hat David was wearing at the time certainly wasn't very aerodynamic!

I liked the line ""I'm behind you, but I'm really two seconds ahead!""

The brawny, bearded Russian huffing and puffing up the mountain (in the big ring) is very good, and his character is hilarious.

And there's this dialogue:
Father (trying to encourage his overweight son): ""Randolph, how would you like a bicycle for your birthday?""
Randolph: ""No Dad, I want a bowling ball."""
