At 3:10 pm last Saturday, the Summer Solstice arrived, heralding the transition from Spring(aka Late Winter 2003) to Summer.

Approximately two hours later, over 300 riders started to ride the eight mile mile course. This field included NYCC members John Zenkus, Peter O'Reilly, John Grandits, Hank Schiffman, TIm Casey, and myself. By 7:15 pm, all had completed the event, with all having personal best times. We were fortunate to have dry, warm, slightly overcast and WINDLESS weather, which contributed to our enjoyment, and good results.

Congratulation to the participants, and their families and friends for supporting them

Is funny you guys raced up hill for 8 miles doing maybe no faster than 9 mph on average. Yet, none of you can't take on your local races (Central Park and Prospect) with cat5 doing 25 mph on average. With the breakaway group doing 28.

The thing that gives me pause on racing is the safety issue. The thought of falling in a pack makes me wince. But cycling up a hill is probably as dangerous as eating lunch.

Any time, any place dude

Clearly, you are an idiot. I have done Prospect Park races and guess what numb nuts, an 8 mile, 8.4% grade climb is much harder, and sucking a wheel doesn't help. Let me put in in another perspective, my power meter says I averaged close to 320 watts for the 57 minutes it took me to do the climb -- I know you ain't got close to that kind of power and never will. You wanna go head to head, name your place and time. Please pick a place with a hill somewhat more challenging than that false flat in Prospect Park you call a climb, so I can really see you suffer.

liane, you just have to understand victor chan. he has a medical condition: an inflated ego, coupled with diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain... it's kinda like cycling-related tourret's syndrome.

Rob Kohn is right....

"But give the ""rookie"" a break....

I think that inflammation on his brain is still reoccurring whenever he sees a Verizon Van cross his path.

A medical condition similar to our Military Veterans who are suffering from shell shock syndrome.

How do we know that Victor was the actual author?

Can anybody match the footprint to Victor? This may be a copycat posting. It just looks too obvious to my eyes.

"Hank,

Here is an IP search look-up:

http://www.amnesi.com/hostinfo/ipinfo.jsp?ip1=24&ip2=188&ip3=34&ip4=74&S...

Now compare and look up both the IP address of the bamboozles (authors) below by using the search engine above…Do you smell a rat???

From this, I’ll let you be the judge.

I do hope I will see him there but won't compete him since we are in different cat. I am just a lowly cat 5 racer. Let's hope Prospect Park will be race ready. I am just wondering can his 35+ body sustain 20+ mph flying that uphill and be able to recover afterward??? To do this for 10 laps. Yes, Tom, you need to be able to fly up that hill at 20+ mph. Otherwise, you are toasted. I see you there, Tom

A few words from my sponsors

I would like to point out again that anonymity isn’t the problem. Does it really matter that if it’s him or someone else? (Who’s worst– the real deal? or a VC wannabe?)

His thoughts are SO insipid but yet like a train wreck, I can’t help but comment on the caricature that he’s made of himself. Contrary to the incorrect diagnosis of an Over-Inflated Ego, he suffers from low self-esteem. The attacks come from the need to find self worth from belittling others. As someone else points out, sometimes we act like children on this board. A child would rather be praised than punished, but would rather be punished than ignored. Look at the attention he gets by boasting about his cycling feats on this MB. But he finds no comfort in whatever speed he attains because no matter how fast he rides he cannot escape his constant companions, –his own tormented soul and ego. So he comes here and fires off a few shots and gets some attention the only way he knows how.

Should his antics be ignored? Sometimes it’s not so easy.

Should the webmaster delete VC esq posts (when they contain no useful info or humor)? I don’t know –we do like train wrecks. Why was the Tom Ridge (not mine) post deleted? I thought it was pretty harmless and funny.

And a side note to Mr. Donato- let’s make sure that you’re proud of all your own postings before doing any more detective work.

Victor: The bill is in the mail.

Practice what you preach

"Well Charles Lam....

What is your point?

I do recall many instances when you attacked VC on your posts w/ this MB.

But..""lets make sure that your proud of all your postings"" too.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Mr. Donato:

Yes, I do stand behind my words. If you read them again, I am stating my thoughts on RR, Hank’s and countless others’ reactions to someone who may or may not be VC. Please dig up any previous post of mine and you will find similar tones on my posts.

My point is that your frequent reference to the Verizon truck incidence is old (2 yrs?) and tired – equates to pouring gas on the fire. Here is one example- couple of weeks ago concerning a crooked frame.

Subject: You are what you ride (nm)

As far as I know, you might be one of the many VC imposters of the MB past. And the racist undertones on your anonymous (not that there is anything wrong with wanting to stay anonymous) post bewilders me because you might be asian also?

My real point being that you help create the environment in which he and others like him thrive and makes this MB a lesser place where NYCC communicate.

But then, I could be wrong.

Enjoy the weekend!

Well Charles..If you have nothing constructive to say about me..

"then how about e-mailing me privately about your accusation... or how about meeting me personally to discuss this in person (unlike hiding from annoymous names and making this a soap opera drama to have the NYCC community witness).

Attached is my e-mail address.

Your post about me is what makes this MB a lesser place where NYCC communicate.

anonymous is good sometimes

Why so bashful over sudden? This isn’t close to being the top dramas on this MB, people love this stuff. You called me out remember. My email is not hard to find.

Seriously, no hard feelings. I’ll buy you a beer on the next ride while we not talk about VC.

Finally, a good weather weekend.

Basis for deleting posts

"""Should the webmaster delete VC esq posts (when they contain no useful info or humor)? I don’t know –we do like train wrecks. Why was the Tom Ridge (not mine) post deleted? I thought it was pretty harmless and funny.""

Webmasters, why did you yank that post, and so quickly?

Are you now deleting material based on the content of its message?

the math doesn't lie

"I think John would be doing you a very courteous favor by not showing up. With John's weight and riding position at 320 watts, he would most likely trump an hour long/4 lap 25mph average of the Central Park circuit course. That's a 100% solo effort; notably w/o the other ""you guys"", John G. and I to help taking pulls.

One can always sit-in on a crit/circuit race and have others do the bulk of the work. It serves better to challenge someone to do the ""race of truth"", a time trial like Whiteface. Please give it a try next year as all of your hot air will be put to better use. ;-)"

2 Hill climbing tips & I don't care if you are faster

"Man, am I laughing out loud -- at Mr. Prospect Park. This is the only ""race"" I will do, and I do it only to participate. I don't embrace racing -- don't care to do it. When I started this thread, it was not to toot my own performance -- but now who cares? My finishing time of 1 hour 26 minutes will impress no one but myself -- and it was very satisfying to improve last years time by 8 minutes. I am usually the last up a hill on a club ride, but I still get there.

Now if you are climbing a long hill, any hill, whether it is Bradley-Tweed, Whippowhill, Little Tor, Perkins drive, et. al., this past weekend proved one thing. (and EVERY rider will concurr) Do not go out on the climb too FAST too SOON !! and don't be in too high a gear! Keep the rpm's high, and keep your heartrate just below lactate threshold. If you get above that 90-91% of max heart rate, then EASE OFF. Now when you are near the top, then you can get out of the saddle and hammer. You can recover on the descent. Do this, and you will suffer a little less on climbs.

Those who go out too fast, or in too big a gear (usually both) will lose power, and on a long hill, you will see those people pedalling squares. During the Whiteface climbe, even I was able to reel in over a dozen people who were suffering. All of them charged out, and they all came back. Come to think of it, that is one fun thing about this race, once you pass somebody, you probably won't see them till the end.

Even funnier is that NOBODY saw Mr. Prospect Park finish the ride up Whiteface. Should we call out the mountain rescue squad? LNASWD.

Yeah, I see you try to bridge a gap at 29 mph solo. Yeah, in Prospect Park. Yeah, I placed the top 5 positions last week race. You don't see me talking about number, right. Is a race. I tell you what I placed. OK. Suckers.

"Victor,

How about a change of pace?

Take a break from that Prospect Park Cat. 5 wankfest and come ride some brevets next year. Surely your consistently excellent placings mean you're ready for a new challenge. There are some hills in New Jersey that would love to get acquainted with your 53x18 ""hill gear"".

Please do not deprive us of the magnificent sight of your Orbea surging majestically up Fox Gap in the gloaming . . ."

Most Improved

Chris' point about the satisfaction gained by the clock showing improvement is worth noting. I only wish I had improved my time by 8 minutes or even the same percentage. Good job.

Proud of my result

"To all the well-wishers, Thanks. I'm proud of my placing and look forward to improving on it next year. You can see how we all did at:
http://www.bikereg.com/News/Results03/20030621Whiteface.asp

To the nameless and faceless ""challenger"", did I see you in the CRCA race or the Prospect Park race this weekend? Where did you place? If you see me again, I'd like to see you try to drop me at 29mph.
