Hello, Helping a friend look for a new road bike. She will riding recreationally, about 100 miles per week, and is 35 years old. Her budget is around $1000, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Coppi has a beauty for about $1200. Your friend might check out Specialized as well...

E-bay!

You can easily get a bike worth much more than its price on e-bay. You just have to know in advance what make and size you need.

eBay???

There's much more to bike fit than seat tube size. Especially for a beginning female road rider, it's easy to get an ill fitting bike on eBay. Often, stock bikes have a too long stem. And in the age of threadless headsets, if the steerer tube has been cut too short, you can't get the bars high enough.

Paying a few bucks more at a local bike shop can be money well spent. They can help you with maintenance, fit, and warranty issues. And there's no substitute for test riding a bike before buying.

BTW, eBay isn't particularly known for low prices (especially after you factor in shipping costs).

Take a look at Gunnar, Lemond, Trek, Bianchi, etc.
