I may be the only one who missed this but when I renewed my membership for NYCC using Active.com they give you a trial membership. I figured, who cares, fine. Well now I see a $49.95 charge for a years membership to Active. I think they did send me some sort of email saying that they would charge me unless I said no. Typical online stuff, but I missed it. Anybody else get this?

Yup, one more mark

They got me too, but I figured it was just a renewal from last year that I'd missed cancelling midst all the spam. Thanks for the heads up!

SNORT

Last year, I got the $49.95. I had to call my credit card co and Active.

Active doesn't suck, they snort and inhale. Bad move. I mean, to save $5 on an sports registration, you pay $49.95/year?!?

Active Update

They will cancel it. I called Active and they were nice about it, but I still hate this method of getting people to join. It's a pain in the butt and wastes time.

try paypal

Maybe the club should consider moving from active.com to
paypal.com. I used them for a conference registration
last year with no hitches. They take a cut (10%?) and
send you the rest. No BS.

Terminology?

I think the definition of a scam involves willful deception or other types of dishonesty. When you sign up for an Active membership, they make it very clear that it comes with a fee attached. They also send a confirmation. This runs counter to any definition of a scam that I'm familiar with. If you fail to read the terms on their website or confirming email, there is only one person to blame and it is not an Active employee. And if they are willing to reverse the charge when asked as seems to be the case, that is further evidence that they are above board.

We have not explored paypal yet but will do so in the near future. Jonathan, if you would like to share your knowledge of their service off-line I would be very receptive.

JP, maybe if you spent less time thinking of new ways to be insulting and more time reading the terms of your Active membership you might have realized that the $5.00 discount you received was not simply a reward for your clever message board posts.

Tom? Is that really you? Why would you be swinging at me?

I simply voiced an opinion consistent with the current thread. I do not like Active. You may like Active, which is fine. Whatever your interest in Active, there is no reason to become nasty, annoyed or take such a tone. Pull that feather out from your shorts and smile Active still snorts.

And I still respect you, … but treat me good Follow your own advice and stop thinking of insults. Lordie!!! This is supposed to be fun. Right ?!?

;-)
