I have rented mtn and hybrid bikes from Sausalito Cyclery in Sausalito, Marin County just across the Golden Gate Bridge from SF. They are located on Bridgeway St. which is on the bikepath and a frequent route for cycling heading up north from SF. They usually have a good selection. I have never found a place that rented road bikes. I will look at home this evening for some cycling maps/cue sheets that I found on a Bay area website.
