why drivers hate cyclist: BBC

Submitted by jegrgic on Tue, 02/12/2013 - 1:44pm

Not the best written article, nor the best application of one finding within evolutionary psychology (a personal love of mine).

If i were to contribute to the article, i would add a perspective of a cyclist following the rules %100 of the time to disprove the authors hypothesis.

Cyclist and cars are one and the same, cars do not share roads, therefore cyclist do not.  cyclist wait in line at lights (instead of riding along side cars). we stop at every red light (and do not try to speed through a yellow).  we signal properly etc.

Think motorist would not be just as angry at cyclist, if not more so?

Of course not.

Unfortunate ... and a seriously missed marketing opportunity.

GWB Sidewalk / Path reopened today

That means all of you bike commuters from New Jersey will have to go into work tomorrow, hope you enjoyed your day off! You always take the day off when the path is closed, right? Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

(But really, the PA can't ensure pedestrian and bicycle access across the bridge during expected seasonal weather conditions? There are surely conditions extreme enough to make pedestrian access forbidding, but NYC streets and sidewalks were totally fine at 12pm Saturday because they were well-shoveled and salted. Waiting 2 days to give the all-clear sounds like they just wanted to let the problem take care of itself... infuriatingly lazy when you consider all that they do to tend to the vehicle lanes)

I would like to know what are the important steel frame qualities, from riders who are experienced.

Safe Riding for Bicycle Messengers - Breakaway Couriers

Safe Riding for Bicycle Messengers - Breakaway Couriers

"Bicycle safety is Breakaway’s number one concern; our goal is to have no accidents at all.  It’s true that being a messenger can be a dangerous job, but if you’re careful, know what you’re doing and follow some simple rules you should be able to avoid most, if not all, accidents.

Statistically speaking, most accidents happen to messengers who have been working less than 8 weeks.  It doesn’t matter how much time you’ve spent on your bike; the only way to prepare for being a messenger in Manhattan is to be a messenger in Manhattan.  If you have no experience with this kind of riding, it’s all the more important to be extremely cautious."

In case.

Amazing number of people out in bikes in this weather.

I live in Elmhurst, Queens.  I am amazed at how may people I have seen on bikes today in the snow, ice, and slush.  Unfortunately, most of the bikes I observed are ill equipped for these conditions.  I may be showing my age, but I hope there are few accidents.

New Website Feature: Ride Listing Filters

Submitted by nyccadmin on Sat, 02/09/2013 - 11:22am

Hello all,

We've recently introduced a new filter on the Ride Listing page (http://nycc.org/upcoming-rides). In additionl to filtering by Ride Level (A/B/C) you can now filter by Ride Type (Cue Sheet or Training Ride).

The usage should be pretty straight forward but feel free to post any feedback/questions to this thread.
