They built the Citibike system, but fortunately another company, Alta, runs it in NYC.

Want a 5 Boro bike tour place?
Hey guys - relaying this message from a friend who's looking for riders to support her charity...
Athletes and bike enthusiasts! Are you interested in doing the 5 Boro bike tour while raising money for a good cause? Swim Free would like your help in raising awareness and funds for our young non-profit at a reasonable price!
Swim Free is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the level of safety for participants and organizers of events in and around the water. We accomplish our mission by providing safety certification programs for all types of event volunteers. These certified volunteers can be utilized by race organizers to make events safer for all.

Hello to my friends in the "frozen tundra of Lambeau Field" (footall fans will know from where this comes),.... or dear NYCC members,
Cassettes of SRAM steel versus Shimano steel
I usually use Shimano Ultegra and XT cassettes but I could not pass up the price of a SRAM Cassette so I put the PG 970 on my mountain bike.
My maintenance consists of installing a new chain once the chain reaches the .75% minimum stretch interval. With an Ultegra and XT cassette $85 I usually can run 3 to 4 new chains on each cassette before the next new chain begins to skip on the most used cog under heavy load. I figure that is pretty good value.
Welcome SRAM $38 cassette. The new cassette lasted one chain. When I changed to the second chain it began to skip under heavy load on the most worn cog. Not good. This is probably what led to the term cheap becomes expensive.
Mystery Point ... STUDDED TIRES
WTF! #3 - Mystery Point is on ... but a local report is that wet, dirt roads will freeze over night ... so STUDDED TIRES are highly advised.
Excerpts from Presidents Speak (on advocacy)
Excerpts from 1/14 "Presidents Speak"
[Note: My views, not official Club policy.]
Back in November, when members were arguing whether the Club should even engage in advocacy, Jerry and I would get an email from Eden inviting the new President to speak on the topic. So tonight I will humbly attempt to offer my views.
But before I do, I want to say that, even in my two week tenure as President, I have come to understand how special this Club is. The ride programs, highlighted up by the SIG in Spring and Escape New York in the Fall, are examples of volunteerism at its finest.

Snow/slush and some icing accumulations northerly of NYC don't bode well for safe, nor pleasant, conditions on the rail trail.

Central Park roadway - is it usually (annoyingly) salted?
I haven't been in CP for a while. When I went out this morning, I was annoyed (as a biker) to find that the road had been salted.
Meanwhile, the streets outside the park were perfectly clear.
For those who ride in CP often, have you found that the loop is often salted more proactively than the surrounding streets?
