InTandem Bike's Donut Ride - September 17 - Marshals & Riders Needed

Submitted by rubyrocket on Thu, 08/18/2022 - 8:34am

InTandem Bike is looking for marshals and riders for their annual Donut Ride on September 17, featured as one of America’s Favorite Donut Rides by Bicycling Magazine.  Anyone on two wheels can participate!  It’s a fun way to raise awareness and funds for the organization as all event profits go towards InTandem’s programming and bike maintenance. In 2021, over 125 riders participated, raising almost $10,000 and are looking to grow it again this year!

Join InTandem’s group ride through Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, stopping along the way to eat some of the City’s best donuts at various shops:

WHEN: 9:00am on September 17, 2022

PRACTICE RIDE for MARSHALS: September 10, 2022

Volunteering for Escape New York

Submitted by CTaber on Mon, 08/15/2022 - 12:18pm

Hi everyone - you can still sign up to volunteer at Escape NY, either on the day of the ride, or before or after the ride.  Here's the link:

https://vmodcui.active.com/volunteer/jobs?eventGroupId=2302832

Now you can sign up directly for a particular job, or you can register as a General Volunteer and we will put you somewhere we need you!   Here's some short descriptions of what's needed.

BEFORE THE RIDE:

Route marking - either if you have a car or you don't.  You drive around marking the route.  This is scheduled for Mon and Tues before the ride.

Logistics and Provisions - we have to stage the provisions (earlier in the week) and ultimately pack the vans (Friday the 23rd).

DAY OF THE RIDE

Thank you to Denise for organizing the all-class ride!

Submitted by leorar on Mon, 08/15/2022 - 8:28am

I want to say thank you to Denise for organizing the all-class ride this weekend! After the ride, Jay Jacobson shared with me that in his 30 years of club membership, he's never seen such a large sea of happy members. And how could we be anything but happy? I loved having the chance to see so many of my NYCC friends, especially the ones I don't usually get to ride with, and to enjoy a delicious meal together. Thank you, Denise! I also want to shoutout to Denise's family, who helped manage the event yesterday. Denise's neice is new to the New York area and is planning to do the C-SIG next year, so let's give her a warm welcome to the club. Lastly, a personal note: thank you to everyone for being so sweet to my puppy.

Any advice for cycling trip to Mallorca?

Submitted by anouk_des on Sun, 08/14/2022 - 6:14pm

Hi there,

I am looking into going on a cycling trip to Mallorca and I see there are so many companies offering tours!

If you have been to Mallorca, I'd love your advice on which company to choose for a semi-guided tour/affordable /not too intense cycling in order to also have some time to enjoy and visit the island.

I understand it's probably not worth bringing my own bike as there are many bike rental options on site. Would love your advice on this too!

Many thanks and best,

Anouk

24 Radial-laced spokes & NYC conditions

Submitted by isaacb on Sat, 08/13/2022 - 10:06am

I'm considering a new bike and notice that a lot of road bikes (with caliper brakes*, like this one) come with radial-laced spokes, sometimes with as few as 24. What is the reputation and experience of these kinds of wheels in our local, relatively rough conditions? Thanks.
* Disc brakes do not go well with radial spoking, so these seem to come with crossed spokes.

I am coming from south of France. I will spend 10 days in NYY with my wife begining of october, but I will have 5 days "off" (from monday the 3 of october to friday the 7) and i wish to ride these 5 days.

I have 2 questions :

- where can I rent a gravel bike ?

thanks for your help.
