as we speak I hear some faint rumbling from the tarmac lorries - just rode up until 101st and it was superbly smooth! 

I try to patronize all the local bike shops when possible.  I have my fave (as we all do), but thought I'd comment on the refurbished Tenafly bike shop on 501.  Stopped by yesterday to check it out, and the new owners were super friendly, even inviting us to stay for a BBQ lunch (which I would have, but then would've needed a taxi up Churchill...).  Their hours are also more user-friendly.  Check them out!
