Desert Camp in Arizona

Submitted by DSabbarese on Wed, 03/09/2016 - 2:08pm

I just survived Pac Tour's Century Week Desert Camp in Arizona. Owners/Operators Lon & Susan always do a terrific job. The camps take place around the Tucson area. Anyone interested in getting a jump on the season by attending a camp in a warm weather locale would do well to consider Pac Tour. It's also an excellent value (Isn't $1245 for a week of cycling, breakfasts, lunches & lodging reasonable?) And there's always lotsa interesting folks on hand. For extra credit I stayed an extra day to climb Mt Lemmon, a real beast of a climb. Although not particularly steep (maybe 4 or 5% throughout?) it goes on forever, 25 miles straight up. I can't recall doing a longer climb. . . .

Berkshires lodging

In addition to the places listed in the announcement, another popular lodging is the Lantern House in Great Barrington. Google for the details. Clean and economical. There may be an NYCC discount. A simple breakfast is included.

TRAVEL BIKE CASE

Submitted by Sable2014 on Wed, 03/09/2016 - 10:01am

I need to bring my bike to a cycling camp.

Is there a place to rent a travel bike box or bag in NYC?

Does NYCC have any travel cases for rent?

Relaxed Bunburying #1 2016

Wednesday, March 09, 2016 10:00 AM

Did you see Wednesday's weather forecast (74 high)?
Yes, it's again time to visit my ailing friend Bunbury (and sample his muffins) and I'd love some company for this relaxed recovery-pace ride - my first of 2016.

Route will include bike path to/from GWB and River Road (for its scenic value, not the climbs - after all of which we will regroup as necessary).

Optional: Those who have interest can add Bradley/Tweed - I'll be waiting for you at Bunbury's over a muffin or two.

Interesting article about Uber's entry into the bike messenger business.

My response to Christy

The Americans with Disabilities act has been a godsend for those who need access, but the word bicycle does not appear in ADA guidelines.  The advocacy is to get the Port Authority to bring the GWB into compliance with federal guidelines so cyclists aren't compelled to walk. Nothing more.  Nothing less.

Nomad Cycles in Queens

Great shop for people who live in Queens. You can watch him work. He explains everything to you and won't get you to buy something you don't need. Terrific place. They will be moving to 37th street and 37th ave near Northern blvd. Look up Nomad Cycles.
