Electric Fans Are Not Cool For Seniors During Extreme Heat
Wind cools you off -- up to a point. To be kept in mind when gauging rider age, group pace and ambient temperature.
Elderly people may experience increased heart rate when electric fans are used during extremely hot weather conditions, suggests a study conducted by UT Southwestern Medical Center heart specialists.
Routes for ENY
Hello,
Could someone in the know ballpark the elevation change for the 100 mile ride? I tried to find this information on the ENY site, the ride with gps site and in the last 5 pages of forum posts but was not sucessful.
Cheers,
David
The New York Cycle Club gives back to our community
September is ENY month – our Club’s annual Escape New York ride. Approximately 200 or so NYCC volunteers have been working all year long to make this day happen. Hundreds and hundreds of people, cyclists, will have a wonderful day as a result of the work of so many of our members. We never cease to amaze me.
Bike case to rent or borrow--Sept 13-21?
I'm doing a charity SF-LA ride from the 15th to the 20th. Wondering if anyone has a road bike case I could use for that time. Not even sure if these things come in different sizes, but it's for a men's 63cm frame. I don't anticipate needing to own one, but happy to rent.
Partial closure of south end of River Road on 9/10
This is for a motorcycle event
WEST SIDE BICYCLE PATH SAFETY- ********ALERT********
Last week on TV there was a story regarding 7 attacks on the WESTSIDE BIKE PATH -during daylight hours! Believe all between mid-town and the GW bridge. 4 teens on bikes - here is the newscast I saw on TV - http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2016/08/26/riverside-park-robberies/
I have also witnessed a group of 4 teens on bikes with very good handling skills menacing people (both on bikes and off) in Central Park. They do it at fairly crowded times - this Sunday afternoon and during evening commute hours, so this is not limited to quiet times in the park. Nobody has suggested connecting these two groups, but I fear that they sound too similar to ignore the coincidence.
Danny Chew: If you don't know the name, learn it here and now.
The link below is on the NYCC FB page. Diane Goodwin posted it. I put it here for those who, like me, just don't do FB. This is truly, sincerely very, very crappy news. I never met Danny but have long admired him from afar. He is important in my universe.
