Special Easter. Sunday Menu at MARKETon 9W

Submitted by AResnick on Sat, 03/31/2018 - 10:02pm

As many of you may have heard; there are large frog populations in the ponds/water spots along 9W recently. That sound is not crickets.

So..along with welched Rabbit on French Baguette, Sunday’s menu will also feature Sautéed Frog Legs in white wine.

Rumor has it that there will also be Easter eggs in the area outside, with free membership for the soon to open market in Piermont.  It is going to be a private eating establishment, with all-u-can eat buffet..hence the need to exclude cyclists.

The uphill to the police station(and bathrooms) will be re-graded next week to a 3% contiguous grade; so we can all equal Froom’s uphill pace(when he is not doing drugs)

All rides next weekend are cancelled due to expected snowstorm.

Thinking of a new bike or tinkering with the setup of your current trusted steed, well here's a little advice on how to be sure you've got the right gearing for your rides - wherever you are, either in the mountains, on the islands or just simply riding to work - the next few minutes could change the rest of your cycling life...

28t or 32t - is it really different?

Submitted by Sina on Thu, 03/29/2018 - 7:08pm
Is there a significant difference between 11-28t and 11-32t cassette in climbing (with a compact 50/34t crankset)? Is it worth the $100-$150 update?

What is your personal experience, if you’ve done this update?

A Remarkable Member of the Club: Robert Marcus

Submitted by RSchmon on Wed, 03/28/2018 - 10:01pm

I wanted to share with our club the post Rob made to his personal FB page today. Just an amazing achievement (for those of you who don't know Rob, well, he is proving whatever his age is, it is the new 40!)  Bravo Rob!

"update: REQUEST WAS APPROVED>>>>This means nothing to most of my FB friends however I finally requested my upgrade for Road Racing to Cat 4. Now instead of getting my butt kicked by 17-25 year olds I can get beaten up by racers closer to my own age, like 40 year olds."

Advocacy for New York Cycle Club members

Submitted by HSchachter on Wed, 03/28/2018 - 9:22pm

On another thread people have been discussing various advocacy opportunities for NYCC members. Transportation Alternatives, the leading safe streets group in NYC, has advocacy opportunities just about every night. Campaigns exist in all five boros to get protected bike lanes, better turning zones and much more. Many NYCC members have participated in these opportunities. When the issue of east/west bike lanes came before the upper east side community board Christy Guzzetta, Richard Rosenthal and many other club stalwarts spoke passionatly for the lanes. Their testimony obliterated the opponent's cry that only young folks cycle and the lanes would  harm  older people. NYCC members have also come to TA's lobby days at the city council.

Goggles for winter/cold weather riding?

Submitted by mhsimkin on Tue, 03/27/2018 - 7:38pm

I'm wondering if anyone uses goggles instead of sunglasses for their rides during the winter?  If so, what brands/models do you use?

I'm considering getting a pair to use for next winter instead of sunglasses, with the hope that my ears will stay warmer as the sunglass frame is not sliding under a hat/beanie.  I just need a pair that will allow me to order perscription lenses.

Thanks for your thoughts.
