Activism opportunity--Ghost bike ride Sunday, March 13

Submitted by EJacobs on Sun, 02/27/2011 - 10:03pm

Hi all, many posts about getting political, and what can we do as a club to develop and project political presence. Here's an opportunity coming up: the annual ghost bike ride to commemorate cyclists and pedestrians killed by cars is on March 13th.

I've done this in past years, and it's sad, but extremely worthwhile, and it would be great to get club folks, preferably in full spandex and club gear, there to remind the DOT, and everyone, really, that it's not bikes (rare, unfortunate exceptions notwithstanding) that kill people, it's cars.

FS Complete Bike: 57cm Time 2006 VXR with full Campy Record 10spd + Campagnolo Neutron wheels.

This is a top-of-the line Time VXR full-carbon bike with a full Campagnolo Record 10-speed group. Time bikes are heavily ridden in the pro peloton and one of the few carbon fiber manufacturers that build their own frames (in France) instead of outsourcing to Taiwan. The build and ride quality are truly exceptional. It's a competent high-end race bike and will serve you well - a rull-Record Time for the cost of a Cannondale.

First flowers of Spring sighting!

Both unexpected in time and place.

Today, February 27th, on the western (Hudson River) side just before the hairpin at the top of the ascent from the GW Bridge on the Hudson River Bike Path, in Manhattan. After this turn, going up, it levels off and you soon come to the 181st Street Henry Hudson Parkway overpass.

Snowdrops in bloom.

I'm guessing that final wall is 18 to 22%. But don't quote me. Need I say that I didn't notice them going up!

Custom Bike Owners in NYC?

Hi,

I'm doing a story on the custom-bike culture here in NYC and I'm looking for owners to interview. If there is anyone out there who would like to call me, I'd really appreciate it. My number is 843-697-9794. Many thanks!

Central Park Cycling Petition at Change.org

Submitted by DMonk on Sun, 02/27/2011 - 11:10am

NYCC Members. Please long on to http://www.change.org/petitions/nyc-central-park-cyclist-petition and sign the petition if you think it summarizes your concerns about the ticket blitz in Central Park. Doing so will not in any way undermine our club's efforts to get paper and ink petitions signed. But the Change.org petition is already approaching 1000 signatures. And with facebook and email links, it offers us all an opportunity to make our voices heard. I think it would be great if our webmaster also used the available Widget to make a link to the change.org petition from the NYCC home page.

Here's the link again:

Waking Up and Smelling.

Submitted by HWoods on Sun, 02/27/2011 - 7:47am

Thanks to Joel Anderson and all his co-leaders (george, lisa, lucia) for conceiving and fielding this February pre SIG series, also dubbed by lucia as the W.U.S.S. rides. These rides had a huge turnout for any season, let alone dead of winter. And if the riders that came out, whether future 19 or Classic participants, are an indication of the quality and enthusiasm of this year's siggies, we're in for some great rides over the next months. It's an awesome reminder that even with everything going on with Central Park and the NYPD on our heels, the indomitable soul of this club starts with great riders who give back by listing great rides. And thus become great leaders.

The SIG starts Saturday! Wake up and Smell it! List more rides! Woot!
