Riverdale Riverfest 2014
Join us on a ride to the fourth annual Riverdale Riverfest, a free festival celebrating the Hudson River and supporting the Bronx Greenway link.
The ride is approximately 12-15 miles. The Festival is scheduled to take place from 12 to 6 p.m., on the campus of the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The renowned John J. Harvey Fireboat, the lovely old AJ Meerwald oyster schooner, and the Mystic Whaler will be available for public sails. You must sign up online if you are interested in a two-hour sail ($25 for adults). We don’t know the sail times yet but we would suggest not signing up for anything before 1pm or after 2pm if you want to be able to ride up and back with us. (If you’re not sure, check with us first.) If you plan to sail, you might want to bring sandals, sunblock, and a cap. Or, if you’re not interested in sailing, you can hang out and enjoy the festivities until the boats return. (We have been told that there will be valet bicycle parking so the bikes will be guarded as we enjoy the afternoon.)
The Festival will have varied stage performers, exhibits, yummy-sounding food as well as a greenmarket, a medieval renaissance battle, and loads of environmental/river-oriented, and just-plain-fun activities and exhibits. Check out the festival website at www.riverdaleriverfest.org for more details and to see how you can make a tax-deductible financial contribution to help sustain this wonderful, volunteer-run community event if you feel like it. (A contribution is not required.)
Long-time NYCC member and former A SIG leader, Jack Lehnert, is a key member of the committee that organizes this effort. He organized valet bike parking for us and is hoping to see a big turnout of cyclists. Two NYCC members will be leading a big 5BBC ride along the same route and it promises to be a really great day and fun way to meet other cyclists. A, B, and C riders are most welcome (one can’t ride too quickly on the greenway anyway so everyone can probably enjoy our “see the scenery” pace). So let’s all support this wonderful effort and have a good time schmoozing with other cyclists, eating yummy food, listening to fun music etc.
A and B riders are welcome to join us. We'll be meeting up with a 5BBC ride - the more the merrier!
