Farm to Table - Welcome New (and Old) Members

Sunday, September 18, 2022 09:30 AM

Please join us for a wonderful ride to Metropolitan Farm in Closter, New Jersey.  https://www.metropolitanfarm.com/about

All levels of riders are welcome, but please note that we will maintain a C13 pace, so faster riders should be prepared to relax and enjoy the scenery.  See https://nycc.org/rides for an explanation of the C13 pace.

IF YOU SIGN UP AND THEN CHANGE YOUR MIND, PLEASE REMEMBER TO WITHDRAW ONLINE BY CLICKING THE BLUE “WITHDRAW” TAB ON THIS PAGE.  This goes for the waiting list, if any, as well.

We’ll meet at J Hood Wright Park, just inside the park entrance at 173rd & Ft Washington. Restrooms are available.

We’ll cross the GWB and ride through some quiet neighborhoods in NJ to get to Metropolitan Farm, where we will stop for a while to admire the alpacas, free-range chickens, guinea fowl, goats, sheep, and whatever this other animal is. https://www.instagram.com/metropolitanfarmfurandfeathers/

Metropolitan Farm is located on the property that is the oldest working farm in the State of New Jersey.  They don't have any food or drinks for sale, so please bring some snacks and plenty of water.

Then we’ll ride through more quiet neighborhoods to the Farm Café (which is farm to table), where we’ll have a delicious lunch.  https://www.abramdemareehomestead.org/farm-cafe-and-menu.  There are tables inside and outside and tables under a covered porch, with room for social distancing.  You’re welcome to eat outside or inside as you prefer.

This lunch will fortify us for our climb up Walnut St to get back home over the George Washington Bridge.

This ride is not pancake flat – there are some gentle hills, which we will take gently, and one big climb (Walnut St) where everyone will climb at their own pace and regroup at the top (and not make fun of anyone behind them huffing and puffing up the hill).

Please bring along a copy of the cue sheet from the Ride Library (attached below) and here is the RWGPS link: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35525614

Note, although the cue sheet and RWGPS show a different starting point, we will start at J Hood Wright Park as already described.

We'll also go off course briefly at around miles 11-12 to get around some ongoing bridge repairs.

Cancels: precipitation, imminent threat of precipitation, strong wind gusts .... Be sure to check your email and the ride listing during the week and at 7am on the day of the ride for any last-minute changes.
