FriYay century to Brewster and back

Friday, September 16, 2022 06:30 AM

This is an ideal ride for those who want to ride a century for the first time this year - or the first time ever! The route is mostly self-contained on roads that exclude cars on well-paved roads. Mild nuisances include a deceptively gradual uphill start at the beginning, small sections of roads with tree roots, pedestrian/dog/stroller traffic, occasionally steep but brief hills, and frequent stop signs. With that in mind, by joining the ride you agree that you have been training to build up to this mileage, will focus on nutrition and hydration at least 48 hours before the ride, and may be dropped if you're struggling to keep up with the group; in this scenario, your leaders will ensure that you have a means to safely get home by train and/or Lyft/Uber.

We will start and end at the last stop on the 1 train. In the morning leave extra time to get to the train station at 6:30am - more than what google maps recommends. The total mapped ride lasts 99 miles, so we will devise something creative during the ride to get that last mile to achieve the century.

Finally, your trip leaders will ask the audience for help if there is a mechanical; you should come prepared to Lyft/Uber to the nearest bike store or back home. Please bring two tubes that fit your tires, an air pump, two bottles of water with your favorite mix (e.g., SIS Beta Fuel, Maurten, etc), extra bars/gels/mixes to sustain your energy for several hours in the saddle, a facial covering, and a smile. Driving rain, 15+MPH winds, or otherwise inclement weather cancels.
