The route is challenging, scenic, and, maybe best of all, very lightly trafficked. (Climbs: Alpine-RR, Snedens Landing (briefly 17%, passing Rupert Murdoch's house, if you want to say "hello"—or just remove the "o"), Tallman, and Eisenhower (briefly 14%). (The full-on Climbathon, to be voted on by group at the 20-mile mark, includes Bradley and Tweed.) 
The leader, a geriatric octogenarian, leads from the rear on all uphills, not because he wants do but because he can’t ride uphill worth a damn: he suffers from a congenital hill defect which requires his blood doping to climb out of pot holes and is daunted by driveways. The point is all you need is: the Will, the Time, and a Low Enough Gear. And the patience to await the belated arrival atop each climb with compassion for the infirm and the elderly.

Before You Ride

  • Make sure your bike is in GOOD working order.
  • Pump up tires to the pressure specified on the sidewall.
  • Bring essentials: helmet, 2 spare tubes, pump, patch kit, 2 water bottles, pocket food, ID, and cash (credit optional).
  • Eat a good breakfast consisting of carbohydrates and proteins.

Bicycle helmets are required head attire for all NYCC Club rides.

Earphones are not allowed while riding. Aerobars are not allowed while riding.

If you signed up and find you cannot make the ride, please remove yourself and open the slot for others.
