NYCC and the Kids Ride Club

Long Island City to Boro Hall, Brooklyn

In the company of Councilmember Diana Reyna and her staff, KRC biked from Long Island City to Boro Hall, Brooklyn, where they had a private guided tour.

They were honored in the rotunda by a visit from Deputy Boro President Yvonne Graham who gave the Kids Ride Club a beautiful Proclamation and official Brooklyn pins.

Later, after lunch, and thanks to ride leader and NYCC member Lisa Hom, the kids had volleyball lessons from two pros and played beach volleyball in an amazing, waterside setting at the new Brooklyn Bridge Park.

NYCC members along for the day as volunteer leaders: Paul Barenholtz, Steve Bauman, David Greenberg, Ed Fishkin, Reyna Franco, Lisa Hom, Joe Irizarry, Raywa Johnson, Abraham Marcus, Peter Morales, Maggie Nguyen, Harry Woods, Norma Sax.

March 28, 2011 Benefit Evening at the Crosby Hotel

NYCC presented a very special event on March 28, 2011 -- a benefit evening at The Crosby Street Hotel for the Kids Ride Club.

Founded by NYCC member Dr. Ed Fishkin, KRC is a 16-year-old program that introduces youngsters to cycling as great recreation, as a safe and effective means of transportation and encourages them to incorporate regular physical activity into their lives. The kids come from Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick, Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Long Island City and is run by a coalition of volunteers from Woodhull Hospital, Recycle a Bicycle, I.S. 318, P.S. 257, HealthFirst and New York Cycle Club.

Thanks to the Crosby Street Hotel, Crumpler and Bicycle Habitat, three generous, community-minded businesses, who helped us pull off this successful fundraising evening.
