Train Requests

TRAIN REQUESTS
The commuter rail systems are commonly used to extend the areas we ride. MetroNorth, Long Island Railroad (LIRR) and New Jersey Transit (NJT) allow cycling groups to travel during off-peak hours. Each system requires advanced reservations and has specific rules.

It is the ride leader's responsibility to design their rides using available train capacity.
LIRR

Submit request by no later than than 7PM Sunday two weeks prior to the ride date

Submit one request for outbound, and another for inbound using this form

Requests for Montauk or Greenport lines between Memorial and Labor Day weekends will not be considered

Deadlines
The information below explains how to submit a bike request with Metro-North railroad and how to create a Metro-North account and login. Bike requests should be submitted for NYCC rides with 4 or more people.

Key deadlines for Saturday bike requests with Metro-North:

- Monday, 5:00 PM to submit a bike request
- Thursday, 5:00 PM to update a bike request.

Submissions after the deadline are encouraged to ensure Metro-North has the latest information, though they may not act on it. Unless you hear back from MTA MNRR with a cancellation, you bike request is approved. The Metro-North system is still a work in progress so expect bike request portal software updates. Be sure that the train you request is an approved Bike Group Train.

Note: You must first creat a Metro-North Group Travel account - see instructions further down under section Create Account

Create Bike Request

  • Order Nickname: Enter the NYCC ride title in the Order Nickname field
    • SIG and STS rides: Metro-North will give priority to the SIG and STS train requests. Be sure to add SIG or STS in the Order Nickname field, for example: "Order Nickname: SIG 1: B16"
  • Include everything in one bicycle request
    • Outbound trains & Returning trains. Be sure to include both the outbound and returning bicycle requests in the same order.
    • Multiple return trains: If group members return at different times, request multiple trains with estimated rider counts. Example: For 33 riders ending at a restaurant, request 11 on the 3:00 PM train, 11 on the 4:00 PM train, and 11 on the 5:00 PM train.
    • Rain dates: Create the request on a new day in this same reservation and check the Rain Date checkbox
  • Improperly entered bicycle requests can be canceled and re-submitted properly.
  • For requests greater than 33 cyclists: email MNRGroupreservations@mta.info as early as possible with the date and quantity being requested by train number to provide Metro-North time to prepare for the large request and minimize the chance the request will have to be denied.

Metro-North train crews have the authority to make decisions in real time based on train conditions to ensure the equipment can safely and comfortably accommodate everyone on board. To help Metro-North reservation team provide outstanding service, submit train requests as early as possible. The deadline for Saturday rides is Monday, 5:00 PM.

Update Bike Request

Things can change as the ride date approaches. Be sure to share changes with the Metro-North team by opening the ride and submitting a message in the Chatter section.

Common changes include:

  • An adjustment to the number of cyclists on the various trains
  • A change to the trains / times being requested
  • The addition or removal of a rain date

Note that changes may not always be accepted but be sure to always submit them so the Metro-North team knows what is coming. Changes to Saturday bicycle train requests should be submitted by Thursday, 5:00 PM. Submissions after the deadline are encouraged to ensure Metro-North has the latest information, though they may not act on it.
