The Men’s Time Trial—truly exciting! Ekimov in the start house. Yes, he’s riding for Russia in the Olympics, but he’s a Postie through and through, so ya gotta root for him—and he takes the Silver! |
Bobby Julich ready to go. Gotta love those USA boys—he took the Bronze. |
|
Our hero, Tyler Hamilton, rolls out. What a race—he just got faster and faster, taking the Gold in style. |
Ranked #1, but finishing a disappointing 7th, Jan Ulrich. |

lf this is Greece, I must be climbing! Every village is on a hilltop—spectacular views once you get there. Notice all the parked cars. The streets are so narrow that only one means of transportation gets through (see next photo). |
The donkey—used to carry vegetables to market. I was tempted to hitch a ride the rest of the way up to the top of the village. |

Our yacht. A lovely home, captained by a fascinating and storied man of the sea. Four years ago, he risked the boat and his life in raging seas to rescue victims of a ferry disaster off one of the Aegean Islands. |
Another view from the dizzying heights. We cycled up to this monastery outside of Kalavrita (did I mention climbing is part of the deal in Greece?). The monastery is built into a rock cliff in the side of the mountain, and in a little cave room here, Saint Luke wrote what became the New Testament Gospel of St. Luke. |
