Memorial Day Weekend

The Berkshire Hills and Beyond

May 28 — 31, 2010 As sure as spring turns to summer and the swallows return to Capistrano, the New York Cycle Club descends upon the Berkshire Hills and settles into the small towns of Sheffield, Great Barrington and destinations in between for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. First known as “The Sheffield Weekend,” this event has become so popular over the years and grown to encompass more of the vicinity that it is now called “The Berkshires Weekend.”

Join us for 3–4 days of cycling through the beautiful country roads, farmland and of course the Berkshire Mountains. Rides are planned for A, B and C levels. Click here for photos from previous weekends to get a sampling of the NYCC Berkshires experience.

For our famous Sunday night wrap-up party, we are returning to the fabulous Egremont Country Club, a beautiful location just a few miles west of Great Barrington on Rt23.

Where we'll meet Most A and B rides start each morning at Sheffield High School on Berkshire School Road in Sheffield. Most C rides and some B rides will start at The Days Inn in Great Barrington.

Dinner/Registration We are returning to the Egremont Country Club. If you never attended, ask anyone who did. It’s the highlight of the weekend. The Cost is $40.00 per person until April 30th and $45 per person beginning May 1st.(Both Prices inclusive of fees) This includes a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres (alcohol not included), salad, dinner, dessert, coffee, tea and dancing to music spun by DJ Don. Important: Dinner registration will close on Friday, May 21st in order to give a final attendance number to the caterer. All guests must pay for the dinner in advance – no exceptions! Click here to Register. (Only payments via PayPal or credit card are accepted. Active.com is not accepted for payment)

Information Package An information package will be sent to everyone the week prior to Memorial Day. If you are not planning to join us for the club dinner, please send your email address here so that you can receive the information package.

Ride up on Friday To maximize your riding opportunities, there will be rides from New York City to the Berkshires using Metro-North train to give us a head start to the country. Please see the ride listings for the details of the rides.

Please note: the NYCC will not provide an official luggage shuttle. If you are planning to join us in the Berkshires by riding up, make sure you have transportation for your luggage, both going up and back. If you are interested in providing a luggage shuttle, please contact us here.

Staveleigh Inn

Lodging Participants make their own arrangements for accommodations. Depending on the class of ride you'll be doing, you'll want to stay in either Sheffield or Great Barrington (see "Where we'll meet" above). Accommodations vary from full service hotels to country inns to B&Bs. Where did everyone stay last year? Click here to find out. Room shares are frequently posted on the NYCC Bulletin Board. There are also two wonderful sources for information on lodging:

1. The Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, (413) 528-1510 (hint: click on "Your Guide to Businesses, Attractions & Lodging," then in the input field of the page that opens type "lodging" and click "Execute Search")

2. The South County Lodging Association, (413) 528-4006
The Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce website has additional information on the area and lots of listings while The South County Lodging Association website features photos of many B & B's. The NYCC will endeavor to maintain a list of available accommodations however, the individual innkeepers and trade associations usually have more current information.

To share lodgings or automobile rides to the Berkshires, feel free to post or respond to such posts on the NYCC Bulletin Board or email us here and we will try to hook people up.

Most importantly, email us with the who, where and email address of your party. We need to know because we email information packets containing useful details for the weekend and cue sheets. Knowing the who and where will also help us better plan the weekend.

More questions? For additional information, please contact us here.
