There were hopes that the Kingsbridge Armory could house an indoor cycling track. Given that it was used for track racing in the 20's and 40's, and the popularity of cycling today, it seemed like a feasible idea, but was apparently shot down by the community. Instead, it may end up housing 9 hockey rinks.

Mark Messier, New York Rangers Legend, was present for the announcement last week.

“That's what interested me about this project, lending our hand to the kids in the community, using hockey as a metaphor for life, and providing these kids with skills for life, that no matter what they do, no matter where they go, they can take these lessons with them”

Here is a CG image of the plans.

"Greg Faulkner, Councilman Fernando Cabrera’s chief of staff, said the councilman wants to hear from more residents before he makes a decision" - taken from the same article above.

Feedback form for Councilman Fernando Cabrera, if anyone wants to voice their opinion. I voiced mine. I'm not sure if the community is best served with 9 hockey rinks. I think it should be  multisport facility (ice rink, swimming, gymnastics, cycling).

Using hockey as a metaphor for life,

Wait a minute, is'nt hockey the one where they wack each other with sticks and then throw the gloves down and get stuck in while the refs just stand by  ?? Skills for life ??  Yep a hockey player talking philosophy, this is like a starlet commenting on politics.

Ya know... Maybe this is exactly what Mr Messier had in mind. I mean, the facility is in the Bronx after all... =)
